Bengals Escape New Orleans With Another Nailbiting Win At Delgado

EUNICE, La. – The last time LSU Eunice invaded New Orleans, it left with a buzzer beating three-point basket to shock Delgado.  On Saturday, the Bengals held off a late Dolphins surge as LSUE took a 67-66 victory at the Michael Williamson Center.

LSUE (12-0, 10-0 LCCAC) would build as large as a 23-point lead early in the second half only to need two clutch free throws from Jonathan Cisse (Grand Coteau, LA, St. Thomas More HS) with 29.6 seconds left in regulation to get the winning point.

Cisse led all scorers with 24 points including scoring the final five points of the game for LSUE.

The Bengals would deny the Dolphins a chance at dramatics, with several stops in the final 30 seconds including a missed three-pointer with less than five seconds remaining.

LSUE enjoyed a dominant first half, taking a 41-26 lead into intermission.  The Bengals went 7-for-16 from three-point range in the first 20 minutes.

The Dolphins would slowly chip away, taking the lead 65-63 with 3:55 remaining in the game.  A three pointer by Cisse with 1:11 left and those two critical free throws were the difference as the Bengals held Delgado to just a free throw in the last minutes of the game.

Isaiah Payne (Ville Platte, LA, Pine Prairie HS) flirted with a triple-double, tallying 13 points as well as team highs with 10 rebounds and 6 assists.  Dhol Majak (Glendale, AZ, Ironwood HS) was the other Bengal to score double-digit points with 12.

LSUE will close out the final week of the regular season with a road date on Wednesday at Southern-Shreveport followed by a home date next Saturday against Baton Rouge CC.
