EUNICE, La. – The backcourt duo of
Jonathan Cisse (Grand Coteau, LA, St. Thomas More HS) and
Isaiah Payne (Ville Platte, LA, Pine Prairie HS) continued to feast on LCCAC defenses as the guards paced LSUE to an 83-66 victory over Baton Rouge CC on Saturday at the HPRE Center. Cisse and Payne combined for 37 points, 10 assists and six rebounds as the Bengals (7-0, 5-0 LCCAC) remained unbeaten and atop the LCCAC Standings.
Tyrese Sam (Abbeville, LA, Abbeville HS) nailed a long-range three pointer with 15:18 to go in the first half, breaking an 8-8 tie. LSUE would never look back from that point, building as large as a 28-point advantage in the game.
Cisse led LSUE with 20 points, four steals and six assists on 8-for-15 shooting. Payne also stuffed the stat sheet with 17 points, three offensive rebounds and four assists. LSUE also had a full team effort, as 12 Bengals scored at least a point.
After struggling from beyond the arc on Wednesday against Southern-Shreveport, LSUE was on fire from deep. The Bengals went 12-for-25 (48%) from three-point range with Payne, Cisse,
Adrian Brown (Lake Charles, LA, Hamilton Christian HS) and
Jaidon Lipscomb (Columbus, Ohio, Dohn Prep Academy ) bucketing multiple shots from downtown.
The defense held the Bears in check, limiting BRCC to 37.1 percent (23-for-62) from the field. LSUE also forced 17 turnovers, turning that into 23 points.
LSU Eunice will continue its week-long four-game home stand on Monday against Southern-Shreveport. Tip-off from the HPRE Center is scheduled for 7:30PM.
