EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice split its third straight doubleheader, taking the first game of the day against Pearl River CC on Thursday at Lady Bengal Field. LSUE tried to mount comebacks in both games, using three runs in the opener to take a 7-6 decision before falling 4-2 in the finale.
It was the start of a season's best 10-game home stand for the Bengals.
The Bengals are back at home Tuesday with a twinbill against Alvin CC at 2:00PM.
Game 1 vs. Pearl River CC – W, 7-6
Morgan Harlow (Lake Charles, LA, Westlake HS) came off the bench to jump start LSUE and help the Bengals rally for a 7-6 victory over Pearl River. The Bengals scored three runs in the sixth inning to take down the Wildcats.
After
Ashlyn Roach (Calhoun, LA, West Ouachita HS) scored
Gabrielle Dupre (Maurice, LA, North Vermilion HS) on a sacrifice fly, it was Harlow's liner down the left field line that scored the go ahead runs. Harlow would force a throw to second that allowed
Katelyn Courville (Lake Charles, LA, St. Louis Catholic HS) to score the game winner from second base.
Raegan Pilgreen (Ruston, LA, Quitman HS) (7-2) induced three fly balls in the seventh for the Bengals to notch the victory. Pilgreen gave up two unearned runs in five innings of relief.
LSUE found itself in an early hole after PRCC would strike for three runs in the first inning. The Bengals would eventually tie the game 4-4 in the 5th inning after a solo home run by Harlow.
The sophomore finished 2-for-3 with 3 RBIs and one run scored.
Olivia Hennen (Choudrant, LA, Choudrant HS) drove in a pair off a first inning sacrifice bunt and a sacrifice fly in the third.
Maddie Leal (Houston, TX, Spring HS) plated a run in the third off an opposite field triple.
Game 2 vs. Pearl River CC – L, 2-4
LSU Eunice attempted to make it back-to-back rallies but fell short in a 4-2 setback to close out the day.
The Bengals scored first in the opening frame off a
Rylie Candella (Centerville, LA, Centerville HS) sacrifice grounder to the pitcher to score
Sydnei Simon (Rayne, LA, Notre Dame HS).
Pearl River would strike for three in the third using a two-run triple and RBI single. The Wildcats added a valuable insurance run in the seventh on a two-out single.
LSUE tried to mount the comeback in the seventh with Maddie Leal getting on base with a lead-off walk. After Rylie Candella worked a one-out walk to put the game tying run at the plate,
Gracie King (Winnsboro, LA, Franklin Parish HS) doubled home Leal before Candella was thrown out trying to stretch to third base.
Cendall Barton (Elmer, LA, Alexandria Senior HS) was tagged with the loss after throwing a complete game.
