LSUE Offense Comes Alive To Push Past Panola

EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice baseball's offense exploded late to cruise to a 16-5 run-rule win in seven innings on Monday at Bengal Stadium.  LSUE (37-4) outscored the Ponies 15-1 over the final 3.5 innings after trailing 4-1.

The Bengals found themselves training by three runs in the fourth before a three-run frame jumpstarted the LSUE bats.  The top-ranked Bengals capitalized on Panola mistakes, using an error, two hit by pitches, two walks and two wild pitches to take the lead for good.  Peyton LeJeune (Church Point, LA, Teurlings Catholic HS) tied the game on a RBI double and would later score the go-ahead run on a wild pitch.

Dalton Burrell (Bossier City, LA, Airline HS) would halt the Panola offense in its tracks to improve to 3-0 on the season.  Burrell would give up a run off a wild pitch in the fifth, but would limit the Ponies to just one hit and a walk over the final three innings.  Burrell also struck out five batters.

Luke McGibboney (Gonzales, LA, Catholic-Baton Rouge HS) got the no decision after 3.2 innings while Brendan Moody (Iowa, LA, Iowa HS) struck out a batter for the final out of the fourth inning.

LSUE struck for six more runs an inning later as Scott Jones's (Sulphur, LA, Sulphur HS) solo home run got the offensive fireworks starters.  After Ayden Makarus (Okotoks, Alberta, Canada, Foothills Composite HS) scored on a passed ball, Hunter Tabb (Scott, LA, Acadiana HS) cleared the bases with a three-run triple.  Tabb would later score on a balk.

The sophomore added a two-run home run in the seventh inning on his way to a career best 6 RBI afternoon.

Darian Richard (Rayne, LA, Rayne HS) ended the game with a walk-off three-run home run to trigger the mercy rule.  It was Richard's first round tripper of the season.

Brady Hebert (Baton Rouge, LA, Catholic-Baton Rouge HS) led the LSUE offense with a 3-for-4 game, scoring three times.  Tabb and Jones also had multi-hit games in the Bengals' 13-hit output.

LSU Eunice will welcome Nunez CC to town on Wednesday for a 4:00PM doubleheader.
