Another Early Hole Too Much For Bengals, Ends Season

EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice spotted Northwest Mississippi 11 runs in the opening frame and couldn't recover as the Bengals fell 12-6 to be eliminated in the NJCAA Region 23 Softball Tournament at Lady Bengal Field.  The Bengals finished the 2021 season with an overall record of 34-22.

After giving up five runs in the opening frame in Thursday's opening round loss to Mississippi Gulf Coast, LSUE dug itself a double-digit hole quickly.  The Rangers' first five batters reached safely, as Northwest would use seven hits, two errors and two walks in the 11-run frame.

Maddie Brower was the big bat for Northwest, going 2-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored.

LSUE wouldn't go down without a fight, scratching three runs in the first and second innings.  Olivia Hennen smashed a two-run home run for the final runs of the game for LSUE while Sydnei Simon collected the only multi-hit game, scoring a pair of runs off a double in the opening inning.

The Bengals would be silenced after the second inning, managing just one hit off Kaylei Peterson who came in relief.

Cendall Barton also slowed down a Northwest offense that was held scoreless the final five innings.  Barton scattered five hits and two walks in 6.2 innings of relief.
