Bengals Keep Rolling In Enid, Score Mercy Rule Of Kellogg

ENID, Oklahoma – LSU Eunice baseball continued to fire on all cylinders as the Bengals collected a second straight mercy rule win in the NJCAA Division II World Series with an 11-2 decision over Kellogg CC in seven innings on Monday at David Allen Memorial Ballpark.  With the victory, the Bengals (49-6) are now in the driver's seat of their respective bracket and will have a day off before playing in the bracket finals on Wednesday.

LSUE would again jump out to an early lead with three runs in the second inning, spearheaded by Beau Kirsch (Lafayette, LA, Acadiana HS).  The catcher drove in the first run of the game with a RBI single, would induce a pick-off that led to a run scored off an errant throw to first and then score off a Bryce LaRocca (Lake Charles, LA, Barbe HS) single.

Kellogg would answer with a run in the fourth, but the Bengals responded with authority.  Ayden Makarus (Okotoks, Alberta, Canada, Foothills Composite HS) tattooed an outside fastball into the right field bleachers for his team's best 12th home run of the season.

The Bengals then turned to small ball pushing their lead to 8-1 over the next two innings using a wild pitch, two misplayed bunts, a ground ball error and a fielder's choice.

LSUE wasn't out of the woods just yet as Kellogg was able to load the bases in the seventh inning, chasing Bengal starter Luke McGibboney (Gonzales, LA, Catholic-Baton Rouge HS)Austin Andrishok (Baton Rouge, LA, Catholic-Baton Rouge HS) would squash the threat, inducing a double play that would score a run before getting a ground out back to the pitcher's mound.

Andrishok picked up his former Catholic-Baton Rouge HS teammate after McGibboney tossed another masterful performance.  McGibboney gaved up two earned runs off three hits and a walk while striking out four batters to improve to 3-0 on the season.

The bottom half of the inning saw the Bengals load the bases before Peyton LeJeune (Church Point, LA, Teurlings Catholic HS) ended the game by lacing a line drive in left center past the Kellogg outfielder that would score all three runs and secure the mercy rule victory in seven innings.

LeJeune led the LSUE offense with a three-hit game including a pair of triples, driving in those three runs and scoring once.  Kirsch and LaRocca were the other Bengals to record multi-hit games in LSUE's 10-hit output.

The Bengals will await a doubleheader of action in their bracket to find out their next opponent.  The winner of tomorrow's Phoenix and Madison contest will face off with Kellogg later in the day.  The World Series shifted around its schedule after rain showers in the Enid area throughout the morning and early afternoon.
