NEW ORLEANS, La. – The LSU Eunice guards scored 57 of the Bengals' points as LSUE defeated Delgado 64-60 on Saturday at the Williamson Center. LSUE improved to 8-0 in LCCAC play and continued their conference win streak to 22 games.
A back-and-forth game that featured 13 ties and five lead changes, neither team would lead by more than six points.
Alonzo Linton (Lynn, MA, Lynn English HS) hit a critical three-pointer with 40 seconds remaining to give the Bengals a 61-58 lead.
Jordan Hayes (Grand Prairie, TX, Mansfield Lake Ridge HS) would sink a pair of free throws with 10 seconds left to seal the game.
Linton led a sharp shooting effort for the Bengals, going 3-for-7 from deep while the team was 11-for-24 (45.8%). Hayes would fill up the stat sheet with a team-high in points (17), rebounds (6) and assists (5).
Isaiah Payne (Ville Platte, LA, Pine Prairie HS) shouldered the first half effort, scoring nine of his 17 points before intermission as LSUE took a slim 36-34 lead into the locker rooms.
Bryce Roberts (Bossier City, LA, Parkway HS) rounded out the double-digit scorers for LSUE with 11 points off the bench including 3-for-6 from three-point.
The Bengals would hold off an impressive night shooting for Delgado as the Dolphins were 49.1% from the floor and 62.5% from three-point range.
LSUE closes out the regular season on Wednesday at home with Southern-Shreveport at 7:30PM.
