BATON ROUGE, La. -LSU Eunice Men's Basketball made critical plays late to escape Baton Rouge with a 68-65 win over BRCC on Wednesday at the Bonne Sante Wellness Center. LSUE (17-3 overall, 6-0 LCCAC) clinched at least a share of a fourth straight LCCAC Regular Season Championship with the win.
The Bengals can grab the outright title with a win on Saturday at home against Delgado CC.
After a seesaw start to the game, LSUE used a 16-5 run to close out the half and take a 35-26 lead at intermission.
Kaden Pierre (Ama, LA, Hahnville HS) led the Bengals with nine of his team best 15 points in the first half.
The backcourt trio of
Nasir DeGruy (New Orleans, LA, St. Augustine HS),
Reginald Stoner (Melville, LA, North Central HS) and
Bryce Roberts (Bossier City, LA, Parkway HS) would carry the torch after half, combining for 18 of the Bengals' 32 second half points. DeGruy added six assists, joining Roberts with 10 point efforts each.
That nine point halftime lead by the largest margin LSUE would have the rest of the night as Baton Rouge threw everything it could at LSUE. The Bears would fight back and take a 65-64 lead with 1:18 left to play.
That advantage would be short lived as the Bengals would use a Kaden Pierre bucket to regain the lead for good. LSUE would get three defensive stops in the final minute as Reginald Stoner drained two free throws to ice the game.
LSUE extended its LCCAC win streak to 29 games, dating back to the 2019-2020 season.
