Second Half Surge Keeps Bengals Unbeaten In LCCAC

SHREVEPORT, La. – LSU Eunice Men's Basketball turned up the heat to score an 81-49 runaway win over Southern-Shreveport on the road on Wednesday.  The Bengals (19-3 overall, 8-0 LCCAC) cap off a third straight undefeated LCCAC campaign in addition to their fourth consecutive outright championship.

It did not seem like doing that would be easy early on as the Bengals found themselves in a tight 33-30 game at intermission.  After halftime, LSUE showed why it is has become the King of Louisiana in Junior College basketball, outscoring the Jaguars 48-19 out of the locker rooms.

The Bengals defense would lead the way in the second half dominance, holding the Jaguars to 7-for-36 (19.4%) shooting from the floor.  LSUE would also force 17 turnovers after halftime and 26 over the course of the game.  Seviuhn Turner (Baton Rouge, LA, Madison Prep Academy) was the lead catalyst for the defensive pressure, forcing a game-high four steals.

The offense in the 48-point half came from 11 different players.  Puoch "PJ" Dubuol, Jr. (St. Cloud, MN, Apollo HS) was the leading scorer for LSUE with 17 points after scoring 12 in the first half.  The sophomore would stuff the stat sheet with seven rebounds, three steals and two blocks.

Corey Pope (Miami, FL, Norcross HS (GA)) and Kiani Saxon (Auckland, New Zealand, Liston College) added 11 points each while Bryce Roberts (Bossier City, LA, Parkway HS) contributed 10 points.

LSUE now turns its attention to the Region 23 Tournament where it will host its first game in the 12-team bracket.  The Bengals could be at home on Monday, February 27 or receive a first round by and play on the Cajun Prairie Wednesday, March 1.  The official bracket will be released this weekend.
