EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice Men's Basketball showed its championship mettle with critical plays late to preserve a 74-70 victory over Baton Rouge CC on Saturday at the HPRE Center. The Bengals (15-3 overall, 4-0 LCCAC) kept its conference win streak intact, running that total to now 27 games dating back to the 2019-20 season.
The Bengals pushed out to a quick 10-0 lead to start the game and stay in control for the rest of the first half, taking a 42-31 lead into the locker rooms.
Bryce Roberts (Bossier City, LA, Parkway HS) picked up where he left off after his career night on Wednesday, scoring 14 first half points. The sophomore led LSUE with 19 points on the night.
Kiani Saxon (Auckland, New Zealand, Liston College) also produced a strong start to the game, pumping in nine of his 13 before intermission.
LSUE would extend its advantage to 18 points early in the second half before the Bears battled back, getting to within four points with six minutes left in the game. Saxon would jump start the Bengals with an alley oop and baby hook shot, followed by a Roberts layup to push the LSUE lead back to nine, 69-60, with four minutes to go.
The Bears would claw to within two points with 24.7 seconds remaining, but a critical press break and
Seviuhn Turner (Baton Rouge, LA, Madison Prep Academy) basket all but ended the game. The Bengals would force a turnover on the ensuing in bounds with its full court press to hold on for the victory.
Turner was the other Bengals in double digit points, scoring 10.
The Bengals would own a decided advantage in transition points (22-4), points off turnovers (19-4) and steals (12-2).
