EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice Baseball scored a Sunday sweep of North Lake College to cap off a perfect opening weekend at Bengal Stadium to begin the 2024 season. LSUE (3-0) secured all three games in run-rule fashion, an opening weekend first since the 2020 season.
The Bengals won the first of two matinee games 11-0 in five innings thanks in large part to a nine-run fourth inning. LSUE took a 13-4 decision in eight innings to conclude the three-game series.
Dawson Willis (Ruston, LA, Ruston HS) led the offensive charge over the twinbill, collecting four hits while driving in three runs and scoring five times.
LSUE returns to the Cajun Prairie this upcoming weekend for a three-game series against National Park College. The Friday night opener is set for 6:00PM from Bengal Stadium.
Game 1 vs. North Lake College – W, 11-0 (Five Innings)
LSU Eunice scored nine runs in the fourth inning, all with two outs, to propel the Bengals to an 11-0 win over North Lake College in five innings.
Evan Joubert (Lake Charles, LA, St. Louis Catholic HS) kicked off the big frame with a two out double, followed by walks from
Bennett Clement (St. Francisville, LA, West Feliciana HS) and
Andrew Lee (Lafayette, LA, Ascension Episcopal HS). Dawson Willis bunted home a run, followed by five runs scored by either a walk or error. Joubert put a bookend on the frame with a RBI single to score
Carson Carey (Bossier City, LA, Airline HS).
Joubert was the lone Bengal to record a multi-hit game, two of LSUE's six hits.
Weston Fulk (Ankeny, IA, Ankeny HS) and
Tyson LeBlanc (Maurice, LA, North Vermilion HS) drove in two earlier runs, in the first and third innings respectively.
Parker Webb (Fayetteville, TN, Lincoln County HS) picked up where he left off from last year, tossing four shutout innings to grab his first win of the year. Webb scattered two hits and two walks with one strikeout.
Caden Tarango (Roanoke, IN, Homestead Senior HS) hurled the fifth inning, working around three walks.
Game 2 vs. North Lake College – W, 13-4 (Eight Innings)
The Bengals closed out their weekend against North Lake College with an all-around performance, taking a 13-4 decision in eight innings. LSUE scored in six of its eight at-bats, limited the Blazers to five hits and would not record an error.
The LSUE offense continued its hot start to 2024 as the Bengals struck for four runs in the opening frame, highlighted by
Tyler Johnson's (Kenner, LA, Brother Martin HS) three-run double. Johnson capped off a four RBI game with a sacrifice groundout in the second inning.
Dawson Willis, Tyson LeBlanc and Evan Joubert would also record multi-RBI games with Willis putting together an eye-popping 3-for-6 game with two RBIs and two runs scored. The sophomore co-captain also stole three bases, half of LSUE's six in the contest.
Owen Schexnaydre (Houma, LA, Vandebilt Catholic HS) posted the win after going four innings, giving up three earned runs on two hits. His three strikeouts were part of eight punchouts totaled by LSUE arms as

Collier Barham (Baton Rouge, LA, University Lab HS),
