Schexnaydre, Lee Guide LSUE To Sweep of Kellogg

EUNICE. La. – LSU Eunice's starting battery of Owen Schexnaydre (Houma, LA, Vandebilt Catholic HS) and Andrew Lee (Lafayette, LA, Ascension Episcopal HS) paced the Bengals to a 9-0 victory on Sunday at Bengal Stadium.  LSUE (13-0) continued its early season dominance, outscoring the Bruins 36-5 over the weekend.

The Bengals would lean on Schexnaydre in the early stages of the game.  The sophomore was able to squeeze out of constant traffic, including leaving five runners on base his final two innings.  After an error and hit by pitch in the fourth, Schexaydre struck out the next three batters he faced.  He followed that up by getting out of a bases loaded and no out jam with a line out and two punchouts.

Schexnaydre sat down 10 batters in his five innings of work, giving up two hits and three walks.

LSUE would reward Schexnaydre's elusiveness starting in the third inning as Andrew Lee scored the first run of the game off a wild pitch.  Weston Fulk (Ankeny, IA, Ankeny HS) followed that up with a hot shot back up the middle to plate Crawford Courville (Lake Charles, LA, Barbe HS), making it 2-0 Bengals.

Lee and Tyson LeBlanc (Maurice, LA, North Vermilion HS) provided big hits an inning later with a pair of two-run singles, pushing the LSUE advantage to 6-0.  Evan Joubert (Lake Charles, LA, St. Louis Catholic HS) added more in the fifth with a RBI single to bring home Collin Husser (Ponchatoula, LA, Ponchatoula HS).

Lee wasn't done just yet, driving home two more runs with a two out two-run double to cap off the Bengal scoring.   The sophomore made his presence felt all weekend as he collected three hits, totaling six RBIs and four runs scored in two games of action.

Lee and Fulk each had multi-hit games in LSUE's 11-hit afternoon.  The Bengals also collected eight stolen bases including a pair from Bennett Clement (St. Francisville, LA, West Feliciana HS) and Joubert.

The Bengals would piece together the final four innings on the mound as Nick Gisclair (Prairieville, LA, Dutchtown HS), Liam Watt (Burlington, Ontario, Canada, Nelson HS), Joe Bordelon (Alexandria, LA, Alexandria Senior HS), Will Mabry (St. Joseph, LA, Tensas Academy) and Alex Dupuy (Natchitoches, LA, Natchitoches Central HS) helped keep the shutout intact.  LSUE combined for 14 strikeouts and leave 14 base runners stranded for the Bruins.

LSUE will play its first midweek game of the year as the Bengals welcome Panola College to Eunice on Tuesday.  First pitch from Bengal Stadium is slated for 3:00PM.
