EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice Softball scored early and often against Kilgore College as the Bengals were able to take two run-rule victories over the Rangers on Monday at Lady Bengal Field.  LSUE (15-5) continued its recent hot stretch, winning nine of its last ten contests.
 
LSUE responded from an early hole to plate 11 unanswered runs in an 11-2 opener, followed by a 13-5 decision over Kilgore.  Rylie Tate (Columbia, LA, Caldwell Parish HS) led the offensive charge for the doubleheader, tallying three hits while scoring three RBIs and two runs scored.
 
The Bengals will enjoy the comforts of home this weekend as LSUE welcomes Lamar State College and Alvin Community College to town for a pair of doubleheaders.  LSUE and Lamar State begin the weekend on Saturday with a 1:00PM twin bill.
 
Game 1 vs. Kilgore College – W, 11-2 (Five Innings)
LSU Eunice overcame an early hole to blow past Kilgore College 11-2 to open the Monday doubleheader with the Rangers.  The Bengals deployed a steady offensive assault, scoring in all four of their at bats.
 
LSUE spotted the Rangers a pair of runs in the opening inning before the Bengals responded with authority.  The Bengals pushed across four runs in the opening inning, highlighted by Kate Rills (Gonzales, LA, East Ascension HS) connecting on a two out two run single up the middle.  Rills and Sara Roussel (Luling, LA, Hahnville HS) would score on passed balls.
 
The Bengals added three more runs an inning later off two of Kilgore's five errors in the game and a sacrifice ground out.  Rylie Tate and Gracee Hess (Belle Chasse, LA, Belle Chasse HS) padded the LSUE lead to 9-2 after three innings with RBI singles.
 
Sina Ballew (Pineville, LA, Buckeye HS) triggered the mercy rule as the sophomore smashed a two-run pinch hit double to make it 11-2 LSU Eunice.  Ballew was the only Bengal with a multi-RBI game as LSUE's seven hits would all come from a different player.
 
Reagan Rios (Longview, TX, Longview HS) notched her sixth win of the season, going four innings of shutout relief.  Rios gave up one hit and two walks while striking out four batters.  Alyssa Boutte (Erath, LA, Erath HS) threw the first inning in her first career start.
 
Game 2 vs. Kilgore College – W, 13-5 (Six Innings)
An early surge helped carry LSU Eunice to a 13-5 win over Kilgore College and secure the Monday doubleheader sweep. 
 
The Bengals raced out to an 8-0 advantage after using a six-run second inning.  Hadley Lemons (Kinder, LA, Kinder HS) sparked the scoring, lacing a two-run double and would later score on a passed ball.  Sara Roussel added a two-run single in the inning, followed by another two-run hit by Rylie Tate an inning later.
 
LSUE would work around three Kilgore home runs which would keep the game from being ended an inning earlier.  The Bengals saw their lead cut to 9-5 before adding a run in the fifth and three an inning later.  Gracee Hess started the scoring in the sixth with an RBI triple and would score a batter later off an RBI single by Reagan Duty (Mont Belvieu, TX, Barbers Hill HS).  After the Bengals loaded the bases, a walk would bring home the game ending run.
 
Kaylee Chandler (Watson, LA, Live Oak HS) picked up the win after tossing four shutout innings, scattering two hits and two walks while sitting down four Kilgore batters.
 
Duty, McKenna Howell (Pollock, LA, Grant HS) and Tate each had multi-hit games in LSUE's nine-hit output.
