NATCHITOCHES, La. – LSU Eunice Baseball scored nine unanswered runs in the Bengals' 13-3 win over SAU Tech on Tuesday on the campus of Northwestern State University. LSUE (27-1) scored double digit runs for the 18th time this season as the Bengals secured their 16th mercy rule victory.
LSUE found itself in a quick hole as the Rockets turned a lead-off triple into a run in the first inning. The Bengals were able to tie up in their half of the frame, using one of three SAU Tech errors to bring home a run.
Tyson LeBlanc (Maurice, LA, North Vermilion HS) gave LSUE the lead an inning later with a RBI single, followed by a two-run base hit by
Weston Fulk (Ankeny, IA, Ankeny HS).
SAU Tech would not go away easily in the early parts of the game as the Rockets plated two more runs to inch closer to LSUE, 4-3 heading into the sixth inning. That's when
Dawson Willis (Ruston, LA, Ruston HS) took the game over and helped the Bengals blow past the Rockets.
Willis blasted a three-run home run in the sixth inning, walked home a run in the seventh and doubled in a run in the eighth. The sophomore finished the game 2-for-4, driving in a season-high five RBIs and scoring three times.
A run scoring single from
Evan Joubert (Lake Charles, LA, St. Louis Catholic HS) in the eighth inning was the only other base hit producing a run during LSUE's nine-run spurt.
Bennett Clement (St. Francisville, LA, West Feliciana HS) was the other Bengal to have a multi-hit game.
Will Mabry (St. Joseph, LA, Tensas Academy) collected his first win pitching 1.2 innings of scoreless relief. The freshman struck out three batters while giving up a hit and walk.
Parker Morgan (Lake Charles, LA, St. Louis Catholic HS),
Sawyer Simmons (Bossier City, LA, Benton HS), and
Nick Gisclair (Prairieville, LA, Dutchtown HS) kept the Rockets grounded with two combined innings of work.
Owen Schexnaydre (Houma, LA, Vandebilt Catholic HS) received the no decision after tossing 4.1 innings, scattering three runs off six hits and two walks with two strikeouts.
