EL DORADO, Ark. – LSU Eunice Baseball used a fast start and strong finish to take a 10-4 win at South Arkansas Community College on Wednesday at Deltic Park. The Bengals (30-2) wrapped up a five-game road swing with the win over the Stars.
The Bengals roared out to a start as
Tyson LeBlanc (Maurice, LA, North Vermilion HS) popped a solo home run in the first inning followed by a two-run single by
Evan Joubert (Lake Charles, LA, St. Louis Catholic HS) in the second inning.
Collin Husser (Ponchatoula, LA, Ponchatoula HS) and
Alex Dupuy (Natchitoches, LA, Natchitoches Central HS) continued the early surge with RBI singles a frame later, giving LSU Eunice a quick 5-1 lead through three innings.
LSUE wasn't quite out of the woods as South Arkansas clawed back to make it 5-4 going into the final third of the ball game. That's when the Bengals would shift gears and put away the Stars for good. Collin Husser kickstarted the late offensive rally with a solo home run, his team's best third of the season.
Tyler Johnson (Kenner, LA, Brother Martin HS) added to the LSUE total in the eighth with a sacrifice fly. The Bengals would land the knockout blow in the ninth inning after Evan Joubert produced his team-high third RBI of the day proceeded by
Dawson Willis (Ruston, LA, Ruston HS) knocking a two-run double to give LSUE the 10-4 edge.
Meanwhile on the mound, the bullpen duo of
Parker Morgan (Lake Charles, LA, St. Louis Catholic HS) and
Nick Gisclair (Prairieville, LA, Dutchtown HS) became a black hole for the Stars. Morgan stifled the South Arkansas offense, going 3.1 innings of shutout relief with three strike outs. Gisclair snagged the final two outs of the game.
Owen Schexnaydre (Houma, LA, Vandebilt Catholic HS) improved to 8-0 on the season after five strong innings. The sophomore gave up four earned runs off five hits and a walk while striking out five batters.
Offensively, LSU Eunice used a balance attack with four players collecting multi-hit games in the Bengals' 10-hit output. Joubert led that charge with a 2-for-5 game, driving in three runs and scoring once. Willis, LeBlanc and Husser also had two hits in the victory.
