EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice Softball continued its midseason surge with another doubleheader sweep, taking its twin bill against Angelina College on Wednesday at Lady Bengal Field. LSUE (21-5) went a perfect 8-0 over its homestand which included four mercy rule wins.
Reagan Duty (Mont Belvieu, TX, Barbers Hill HS) provided the exclamation point on another strong day for LSU Eunice as the Bengals used Duty's walk-off RBI double to capture a 7-6 win over the Roadrunners in eight innings. LSUE cruised in the opener, blanking Angelina 10-0 in five innings. Duty played a pivotal role in both wins, driving in four RBIs total for the pair of games.
LSU Eunice hits the road this weekend for a Sunday doubleheader against Northwest Florida State.
Game 1 vs. Angelina College – W, 10-0 (Five Innings)
LSU Eunice used an eight-run inning late to surge past Angelina College 10-0 in five innings. The Bengals won their 10th game in mercy rule fashion.
The Bengals took a 2-0 lead into the fourth inning thanks to a Reagan Duty RBI in the first inning and a
Gracie Bailey (Watson, LA, Live Oak HS) sacrifice ground out in the second. The Bengals saw the first four batters reach safely as Gracie Bailey broke open the game with a three-run double.
Kate Rills (Gonzales, LA, East Ascension HS) capped off the big inning with a clutch two-out two-run single to make it 10-0 Bengals.
LSUE saw three players have multi-hit games as Duty,
Sara Roussel (Luling, LA, Hahnville HS) and
Hadley Lemons (Kinder, LA, Kinder HS) led the Bengals' 8-hit output. Bailey pushed through four RBIs in the game, tying the sophomore's career high.
Reagan Rios (Longview, TX, Longview HS) improved to 9-3 on the season after going four full innings in the circle. Rios gave up just one hit and two walks while striking out six batters in the win.
Cate Nettles (Slidell, LA, Slidell HS) worked a perfect fifth inning to preserve the shutout.
Game 2 vs. Angelina College – W, 7-6 (Eight Innings)
Reagan Duty sent the LSU Eunice dugout into a celebration as the Bengals were able to walk-off with a thrilling 7-6 win in eight innings over Angelina College. It was LSUE's first extra innings win of the season.
LSU Eunice was able to get runners on first and second on walks, giving Duty an opportunity to win the game with two outs. The freshman stroked the first pitch she saw to the wall in right center, allowing
Kamryn Howard (Iowa, LA, Iowa HS) to easily score. It was one of two RBIs in the game for Duty.
The Bengals jumped out to a 4-0 lead through three innings, highlighted by
McKenna Howell's (Pollock, LA, Grant HS) mammoth two-run home run. LSUE was not out of the woods just yet as Angelina would strike for four runs in the fourth to tie the game.
LSUE answered right away plating a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning. Duty's sacrifice fly was followed by a RBI double by
Katie Salling (Baton Rouge, LA, Parkview Baptist HS). The Roadrunners forced extra innings with two runs in the sixth inning.
McKenna Howell improved to 7-2 on the season after going 4.1 innings. The freshman would reenter the game in the circle in the eighth inning to hold off Angelina and set the stage for Duty's dramatics.
Kaylee Chandler (Watson, LA, Live Oak HS) and Reagan Rios also saw time in relief.
The offense saw three hitters produce multi-hit games as Roussel, Hess and Howell led the Bengals' attack.
