Fast Start Helps LSUE Take Win At Panola

CARTHAGE, Texas – LSU Eunice Baseball took an early lead and never let go, taking down Panola College 7-4 on Monday at Jim Reeves Memorial Stadium.  The Bengals (41-3) have eclipsed the 40-win plateau for the 17th straight full season under Jeff Willis.

The Bengals scored six early runs to push out in front of the Ponies.  LSUE would load the bases in the first inning and score its runs off a walk and Bennett Clement (St. Francisville, LA, West Feliciana HS) striking a two-run single.  Collin Husser (Ponchatoula, LA, Ponchatoula HS) and Evan Joubert (Lake Charles, LA, St. Louis Catholic HS) sacrificed runs in before Tyson LeBlanc (Maurice, LA, North Vermilion HS) drove in Dawson Willis (Ruston, LA, Ruston HS) to make it a 6-0 LSUE advantage through 2.5 innings.

Panola College methodically clawed back to within 6-4 entering the final inning before Tyler Johnson (Kenner, LA, Brother Martin HS) added a valuable insurance run.  Collier Barham (Baton Rouge, LA, University Lab HS) secured the win and notched his fifth save of the season, getting the last four outs of the game.

Owen Schexnaydre (Houma, LA, Vandebilt Catholic HS) added his 11th win of the season, going five full innings.  The sophomore gave up three runs off six hits and a walk while striking out four batters.  Parker Webb (Fayetteville, TN, Lincoln County HS) and Parker Morgan (Lake Charles, LA, St. Louis Catholic HS) also saw time in relief.

Offensively, the Bengals were led by multi-hit games from Clement, LeBlanc and Ashton Fuselier (Lake Charles, LA, Sam Houston HS).

LSU Eunice continues its season series with Panola as the Bengals host a three-game series this weekend.  A Saturday doubleheader starts the action with a 3:00PM start time.
