KILGORE, Tex. – LSU Eunice Softball cruised to a Friday doubleheader sweep of Kilgore College at The Ballpark at KC Commons. The Bengals (38-12) played six doubleheaders in Texas this season, sweeping four of them.
LSU Eunice pushed out an early lead to take a 9-4 victory in game one over the Rangers, followed by a 9-0 mercy rule win in five innings. It was the Bengals' 17th mercy rule win of the season.
The Bengals close out the regular season on Sunday, April 28 with a return date to north Louisiana to play Bossier Parish CC in a 2:00PM doubleheader.
Game 1 vs. Bossier Parish CC – W, 9-4
LSUE raced out to an early lead to pave the way towards a 9-4 win to open the Kilgore doubleheader.
LSU Eunice struck for four runs in the opening inning, jumping out to a 6-0 lead through 3.5 innings.
Kate Rills (Gonzales, LA, East Ascension HS) produced the first run of the game on a one-out single, followed by a
Gabrielle Huetter (Magnolia, TX, Magnolia HS) sacrifice and two-run triple by
Katie Salling (Baton Rouge, LA, Parkview Baptist HS).
Huetter added a solo home run in the third inning, followed by a two-out RBI double off the bat of
Gracee Hess (Belle Chasse, LA, Belle Chasse HS).
Kilgore clawed for two runs in the fourth before LSUE answered with a run in the fifth and two more in the ninth.
Reagan Duty (Mont Belvieu, TX, Barbers Hill HS) brought home the run in the fifth followed by a two-run error on a
Kamryn Howard (Iowa, LA, Iowa HS) fly ball in the seventh.
Reagan Rios (Longview, TX, Longview HS) secured the win after going four innings while
Alyssa Boutte (Erath, LA, Erath HS) notched the save after three innings of work.
Rills headlined the LSUE offense with a three hit game, joined by Huetter with a multi-hit outing.
Game 2 vs. Bossier Parish CC – W, 9-0 (Five Innings)
LSU Eunice used a pair of big innings to take down Kilgore 9-0 and close out the Friday doubleheader.
The Bengals struck for four runs in the opening inning, as LSUE used four straight two-out plate appearances to score. Gabrielle Huetter,
Katie Salling (Baton Rouge, LA, Parkview Baptist HS) and
Hadley Lemons (Kinder, LA, Kinder HS) drove in runs while Kilgore committed one of three errors on a Reagan Duty ground ball.
LSUE plated five more runs in the fifth inning to induce the mercy rule. It was again two-out magic as Lemons,
Sina Ballew (Pineville, LA, Buckeye HS) and
Rylie Tate (Columbia, LA, Caldwell Parish HS) had three straight two-out hits to push the lead to 7-0. Gracee Hess added two more with a two-run single.
Hess and Lemons led the LSUE offense with a pair of two-hit, two RBI games. The Bengals managed nine hits and used six free passes.
Cate Nettles (Slidell, LA, Slidell HS) grabbed the win after tossing four innings, giving up two hits and two walks. She would strike out two batters.
Kaylee Chandler (Watson, LA, Live Oak HS) worked the final inning of the game.
