EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice and Bossier Parish went toe-to-toe with strong pitching efforts as the two sides split their Wednesday doubleheader at Lady Bengal Field. The Bengals (28-8) got a pair of complete game performances while totaling just seven hits over 14 innings of action.
The Bengals dropped the opening game of the season as a two-run two-out double was the difference as LSUE fell 2-1 but would regroup in a big way with a 5-1 victory.
LSU Eunice closes out the home portion of the regular season with a Thursday doubleheader against Louisiana Christian and a Monday twinbill with San Jacinto College.
Game 1 vs. Bossier Parish CC – L, 1-2
LSU Eunice suffered a tough luck 2-1 loss to Bossier Parish to begin the two team's Wednesday doubleheader.
Reagan Rios (Longview, TX, Longview HS) tossed her seventh complete game of the year to keep the Bengals in the pitcher's duel.
The freshman did everything she could to squash the Cavaliers. Rios put the Cavaliers down in order twice, giving up just three hits on the day. Bossier Parish scored its only runs of the game off a two-out double in the fifth.
LSUE held the lead for most of the game, capitalizing on one of three Cavalier errors.
Reagan Duty (Mont Belvieu, TX, Barbers Hill HS) punched a ground ball to second base which was misplayed, allowing
Gracee Hess (Belle Chasse, LA, Belle Chasse HS) to score from in the first inning.
The Bengals would have several opportunities to tack on more runs, leaving two runners stranded at third in the final three innings.
McKenna Howell (Pollock, LA, Grant HS) was a bright spot offensively, collecting two of the team's four hits in the game.
Game 2 vs. Bossier Parish CC – W, 5-1
The Bengals would strike early and late to take a 5-1 win over Bossier Parish and earn the Wednesday split.
LSUE struck for two runs in the opening inning, using a McKenna Howell RBI single and Reagan Duty fielder's choice to produce the runs.
Sara Roussel (Luling, LA, Hahnville HS) added another run in the second inning on an RBI single after the Cavaliers plated their lone run in the first.
Gracie Bailey (Watson, LA, Live Oak HS) added important insurance runs with a pinch hit two-run home run in the sixth inning.
The rest was left up to Howell, who tossed a complete game. The freshman scattered four hits and one unearned run while not allowing a free pass. She was would strike out six batters over the afternoon.
