CROWLEY, La. – LSU Eunice Baseball turned it up in the back half of the Saturday tilt against National Park to take a 9-5 victory at Miller Stadium. LSUE (5-0) used an eight-run spurt from the fifth to eighth innings to secure the series.
The Bengals found themselves trailing 3-1 entering the fifth inning when both sides of the LSUE squad picked up the pace.
Caleb Hastings (Lutcher, LA, Lutcher HS) started the rally with a RBI double down the left field line, followed by a go-ahead two run single by
Tyson LeBlanc (Maurice, LA, North Vermilion HS).
Jordan Luna (Washington, LA, Opelousas Catholic HS) concluded the four-run frame with a sacrifice grounder to score LeBlanc, giving LSUE a 5-3 advantage.
Xavier Woods (Cleveland, TX, Cleveland HS) would bring the Nighthawk offense to a halt, tossing 4.2 innings of shutout relief. The freshman lefty struck out seven batters, including striking out the side in the sixth inning. Woods grabbed his first win of his collegiate career after scattering two hits and two walks in the outing.
LSUE would add to its lead in the seventh as
Milan Obradovich (Tuscaloosa, AL, Northridge HS) singled home
Aidan Mouton (Rayne, LA, Notre Dame HS). Mouton would add to the tally an inning later, making it a 9-3 Bengals lead with a RBI double down the left field line. Mouton enjoyed a breakout game at the plate, going 4-for-5 with the RBI and run scored.
Ashton Fuselier (Lake Charles, LA, Sam Houston HS) added a three-hit game with
Alex Dupuy (Natchitoches, LA, Natchitoches Central HS),
Jackson Legg (Shreveport, LA, Calvary Baptist HS), Luna and Obradovich all having multi-hit games in LSUE's 19-hit attack.
Reese Ashworth (DeQuincy, LA, DeQuincy HS) pitched the final inning, giving up two runs to bring the game to its final 9-5 margin.
Alec Beversdorf (Seabrook, TX, Clear Falls HS) threw a no-decision in the start, giving up three earned runs off four hits and four walks while striking out four batters.
The two teams swapped runs in the third with Fuselier tying the game 1-1 with a RBI single to left field, scoring Cash Riley. NPC added two more in the fourth before LSUE's middle inning rally.
