EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice Women's Basketball used an impressive run in the second and third quarters to produce a 79-52 win over Baton Rouge CC on Wednesday at the HPRE Center. The Bengals (16-9, 5-0 LCCAC) remained the lone unbeaten in conference play at the half point of the LCCAC schedule.
The win was the Bengals 10th straight victory, the program's first double-digit win streak since the 2019-2020 squad posted 12 in a row. LSUE's longest win streak in school history is 16 games – set three different times.
Similar to their first meeting, LSU Eunice overcame a slow first quarter by using a big run to push past Baton Rouge for good. The Bengals trailed 17-12 with 7:55 remaining in the second quarter before engineering a 17-0 run in less than three minutes.
Simone Clay (Bloomington, MN, Bloomington Jefferson HS) started and ended the flurry with three-point baskets while
Kamiera McDonald (Baton Rouge, LA, Scotlandville HS) connected on a trio of consecutive deep trifectas. The duo scored 19 of the team's 27 points in the quarter to help the Bengals hold a 37-24 halftime edge.
LSUE continued its domination in the third quarter, outscoring the Bears 23-12 to take a 24-point lead into the final frame, 60-36.
Ray'Onna Sterling (Vacherie, LA, Walker HS) scored six of her 14 points in the quarter.
McDonald led all scorers with 20 points, making four three-point baskets. Clay added 15 while
Mariah Heard (Bastrop, LA, Bastrop HS) and
Trinity Thomas (Walker, LA, Walker HS) each chipped in 10 points each.
The Bengals hit the road this weekend for a Saturday matchup against Delgado CC in New Orleans. Game time from the Michael Williamson Center is set for 2:00PM.
