GULF SHORES, Ala. – LSU Eunice Softball split its second doubleheader of the Sun Chief Classic in Gulf Shores on Saturday. The Bengals (12-2) finish the two-day tournament 3-1, its second of three tournaments this season.
LSU Eunice would race out to a big lead against Bishop State before holding off the Wildcats in a 7-5 win and fell in the tournament finale 6-1 to Coastal Alabama CC-South.
The Bengals will be back in action this Wednesday as LSU Eunice hosts Angelina College for a doubleheader starting at 4:00PM from Lady Bengal Field.
Game 1 vs. Bishop State CC – W, 7-5
LSUE jumped out to seven run lead before holding off Bishop State to take a 7-5 decision. The Bengals scored in each of the first four innings, collecting 11 hits.

Corin Waguespack (Gonzales, LA, East Ascension HS) sacrifice ground out to plate
Makinzey Elisar (Prairieville, LA, St. Amant HS).
Payton Prince (Sulphur, LA, Sulphur HS) added two more runs in the second inning with a two-run home run to left field.
Makinley Harris (Denham Springs, LA, Denham Springs HS) helped LSUE manufacture a run in the third with a sacrifice bunt, followed by a RBI single from Elisar and Waguespack's second sacrifice of the game to push the LSUE advantage to 6-0.
Bishop State would claw back with runsin the fifth and sixth while LSUE added an insurance run in the sixth thanks to Elisar sacrificing home Prince. Elisar led the Bengals with a 3-for-4 game, driving in two runs and scoring one.
BSCC wouldn't go away easy, scoring three runs in the seventh before the Bengals were able to close out the game for good.
Ava Kordish (Bayou Chicot, LA, Pine Prairie HS) picked up the win to improve to 4-0 on the season after tossing 5.2 innings. Kordish gave up one earned run off two hits while striking out three batters.
Cate Nettles (Slidell, LA, Slidell HS) pitched the final 1.1 innings.
Game 2 vs. Coastal Alabama CC-South – L, 1-6
LSUE could not overcome an early hold as the Bengals fell in their Gulf Shores finale 6-1 to Coastal Alabama CC-South.
CACC took advantage of three hits and four free passes in the first inning to take a 4-0 advantage early. Coastal would score another run in the third to dig LSUE a deeper hole.
The Bengals would plate a run in the fourth off a bases loaded walk but could not cross another while in prime position. LSUE managed just two hits in the game while committing three errors.
