EUNICE, La. – The LSU Eunice Baseball offense shined from start to finish, leading the Bengals to a 17-9 victory over Murray State on Saturday at Bengal Stadium. LSUE (18-1) collected 22 hits in the game, the most for LSU Eunice since a 25-hit performance against L.B. Wallace during the 2021 season.
The Bengals were quick to strike, jumping out to a 5-0 lead in the first two innings. LSUE used a pair of bases loaded walks and a fielder's choice for a three-run inning to open the game, followed by an RBI single from
Alex Dupuy (Natchitoches, LA, Natchitoches Central HS) and another bases loaded walk in the second inning.
Murray State gave a loud response in the third, striking for five runs to temporarily tie the game. The Bengals answerer back right with
Aidan Mouton (Rayne, LA, Notre Dame HS) bringing in Dupuy on a single to left field. LSUE would never trail the remainder of the afternoon.
LSUE padded its lead with three more runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by
Cash Riley, III (Dallas, TX, Jesuit HS) looping a two-run triple down the right field line. Riley led the Bengals with a career-high four hit game, connecting on a pair of triples. The lead would push to 11-5 in the sixth off two manufactured runs before the Aggies trimmed the Bengals lead to 11-9 heading into the home half of the seventh inning.
The Bengals produced their own four-run inning in the seventh with
Jackson Legg (Shreveport, LA, Calvary Baptist HS) and
Jordan Luna (Washington, LA, Opelousas Catholic HS) connecting on back-to-back RBI singles.
Milan Obradovich (Tuscaloosa, AL, Northridge HS) capped the frame with a two-out, two-run single up the middle to bring Legg and Luna in to score, running the game to 15-9 LSU Eunice.
Tyson LeBlanc (Maurice, LA, North Vermilion HS) and Legg would add RBI doubles in the eighth to pad the Bengals lead before
Eli Lamb (Franklin, TN, Centennial HS) escaped a bases loaded jam in the ninth to complete the win.
In addition to Riley's four-hit afternoon, the quartet of Dupuy, Mouton, LeBlanc and Legg had three-game games while Luna and Obradovich added a pair each. LSUE would take advantage of 11 free passes by Aggie pitching.
Peyton Beck (Ruston, LA, Ruston HS) was credited with the win after tossing 2.1 innings of relief.
Hudson Spangler (Zachary, LA, Zachary HS) and
Will Mabry, IV (St. Joseph, LA, Tensas Academy) joined Beck and Lamb out of the bullpen to finish the game.
Xavier Woods (Cleveland, TX, Cleveland HS) got the start, striking out five batters in 2.2 innings of work. The LSUE pitching staff collected 12 punch outs as a group.
LSUE and Murray State conclude their series with a Sunday matinee from Bengal Stadium at 1:00PM.
