EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice Softball continues to enjoy the comforts of the Cajun Prairie, taking another pair of games against Lansing CC on Saturday at Lady Bengal Field. LSUE (19-5) swept the Stars for a second straight day, its third straight twin bill sweep at home this week.
The Bengals used early offense in both games, taking an 8-1 victory in the opener followed by a 10-0 run-rule in five innings to close out the four-game series featuring two NJCAA ranked teams.
Kate Rills (Gonzales, LA, East Ascension HS) collected five hits in the two games, having a hand in six of the team's runs.
LSUE closes out its eight-game homestand on Wednesday with a matchup against Galveston College beginning at 1:00PM.
Game 1 vs. Lansing CC – W, 8-1
LSU Eunice flexed its muscle again to start its Saturday action with Lansing, producing an 8-1 win. The Bengals struck early and often while the LSUE arms limited Lansing to just two hits.
Kate Rills began her big day at the plate in the opening inning of the doubleheader, driving home a pair of runs on a two-out single to give LSUE the early advantage. Lansing would have its only answer of the day in the second, using two errors to score a run on a sacrifice fly.
From that point, it was all LSUE the remainder of the afternoon, as LSUE pushed its lead to 4-1 with two runs in the third inning.
Ciara Orgeron (Stonewall, LA, North Desoto HS) doubled home a run, followed by the Bengals scoring a run on one of Lansing's two errors in the game.
The Bengals finished their scoring with a four-run fourth, all coming with two outs.
Jade Fischtzuir (Covington, LA, Covington HS) and
Gracie Higginbotham (Sulphur, LA, Sulphur HS) produced RBI base hits to end a stretch that saw seven straight batters reach base safely.
Rills led the way with a 3-for-3 game, driving in two and scoring twice. Fischtziur and Prince added multi-hit games in LSUE's 12-hit attack.
Erika Savage (Kingwood, TX, Kingwood Park HS) picked up the win after hurling four innings, working around one unearned run with one hit and two walks.
Ava Kordish (Bayou Chicot, LA, Pine Prairie HS) was credited with a save after three innings in relief, limiting the Stars to a hit and a walk. Each pitcher had one strikeout in the game.
Game 2 vs. Lansing CC – W, 10-0 (Five Innings)
LSU Eunice took advantage of six Lansing errors to produce a 10-0 win in five innings to close out the four-game series. The Bengals put the run-rule in sight with a six-run third inning.
That big frame started with the first round Bengal batters reaching base safely. Kate Rills produced a RBI single to kick off the scoring in the inning, followed by a
Hadley Lemons (Kinder, LA, Kinder HS) RBI single to left field. After a fielder's choice pushed the lead to 5-0,
Payton Prince (Sulphur, LA, Sulphur HS) provided the big hit with a two-out bases loaded three-run triple.
Lemons and Fischtziur capped the scoring in the fourth with RBI base hits. Lemons was joined by Prince, Rills and
McKenna Howell (Pollock, LA, Grant HS) with multi-hit games.
Alyssa Boutte (Erath, LA, Erath HS) picked up the win with the start, going three innings of two-hit shutout action.
Cate Nettles (Slidell, LA, Slidell HS) and
Ava Defee (Benton, LA, Benton HS) each threw a frame to close out the shutout.
