EUNICE, La. – It was business as usual for fourth-ranked LSU Eunice Baseball, taking a 13-3 decision over North Iowa Area CC in seven inning run-rule contest Saturday at Bengal Stadium. The win gave LSUE (25-1) its fifth mercy-rule decision in the last six games and 13th overall this season.
As was the case in the Friday opener, LSUE had to overcome a small early deficit with NIACC striking for a pair of runs in the opening inning. The Bengals would once again have a profound answer, push five runs across in the bottom of the frame.
Tyson LeBlanc (Maurice, LA, North Vermilion HS) and
Will Mabry, IV (St. Joseph, LA, Tensas Academy) both connected on two-run singles followed by a bases loaded walk.
LSUE wouldn't score again until the fourth inning when LeBlanc singled home another run, making it 6-2 LSUE. The Bengals would manufacture three runs an inning later with
Griffin Cooley (Kinder, LA, Kinder HS), Dupuy, and Mouton driving in runs.
The Trojans scored their final run of the game in the sixth before LSUE would push across four final runs in the last two innings to induce the run rule. All four runs would come home thanks to bases loaded free passes.
On the afternoon,
Will Mabry, IV (St. Joseph, LA, Tensas Academy) enjoyed a 3-for-3 game, joined by Mouton and LeBlanc with multi-hit games.
Caden Tarango (Roanoke, IN, Homestead Senior HS) picked up his seventh win of the year, giving five innings of work. Tarango breezed through the middle innings, managing traffic in the first and fifth innings. The big right-hander limited NIACC to one run in the first inning and leaving two runners on base, followed by shutting down a bases loaded jam in his final frame.
Caden Tarango (Roanoke, IN, Homestead Senior HS) tossed two innings in relief, scattering one earned with the only base runner coming by a hit by pitch.
LSUE wraps up its series with North Iowa Area on Sunday with a 1:00PM first pitch from Bengal Stadium. After a trip to Sterlington to face SAU Tech during the mid-week, the Bengals will play in its first LCCAC game against Baton Rouge CC at home with a Saturday doubleheader starting at 2:00PM.
