Bengals Complete Big Rally, Sweep Nunez

EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice Baseball once again showed their resolve, mounting another impressive come-from-behind victory in an 11-7 win over Nunez CC on Saturday.  The Bengals (46-2) dug themselves out of a seven-run hole for the second time this season.

LSUE would find itself with its backs against the wall after Nunez would strike for seven runs in the first two innings, coming off eight hits and two walks.

The Bengals went right to work in the bottom half of the inning, plating five runs.  LSUE would quickly load the bases, finally getting on the scoreboard after back-to-back RBI singles from Jackson Legg (Shreveport, LA, Calvary Baptist HS) and Tyson LeBlanc (Maurice, LA, North Vermilion HS).  Two balks would inch LSUE even closer before Ashton Fuselier (Lake Charles, LA, Sam Houston HS) capped off the five-spot in the second with an infield single to the shortstop to score LeBlanc.

LSUE's power game made an appearance an inning later with Jordan Luna (Washington, LA, Opelousas Catholic HS) and Cash Riley, III (Dallas, TX, Jesuit HS) hitting back-to-back solo home runs to tie the game up 7-7.

The middle innings would see both offenses quiet down before a late surge by the Bengal bats.  Mason Bordelon (Marksville, LA, Avoyelles Charter HS) played a critical role in those latter innings, giving LSUE its first lead of the game with an opposite field solo home run to right field in the seventh inning, making it an 8-7 game.  The designated hitter then provided valuable insurance runs, coming through in the next frame during a two-out, bases loaded situation with a two-run single up the middle.  Blaise Blancher (Lafayette, LA, Teurlings Catholic HS) added another run with a RBI single.

Bordelon was joined by Fuselier, Riley III, and Milan Obradovich (Tuscaloosa, AL, Northridge HS) with multi-hit games as LSUE piled up 12 hits in the game.

After the slow start, the Bengal arms would stop the Pelicans offense in their tracks.  LSUE would hold Nunez to just three hits and five total base runners in the final seven innings.  The Bengals unleashed seven different pitchers in the game, combining for 12 strikeouts.

Hudson Spangler (Zachary, LA, Zachary HS) picked up the win after tossing two shutout relief innings, giving up one hit while striking out three batters.

LSUE is back at home this Wednesday with a 3:00PM contest against Bossier Parish CC.  The Bengals close out the regular season next weekend with a home series against Delgado CC.
