ELLISVILLE, Ms. – LSU Eunice Softball dropped its opening game of the Region 23 Tournament 10-2 to Pearl River CC on Sunday at Gwen Magee Field. The Bengals (40-11) fall to elimination play where they will take on Mississippi Gulf Coast on Monday at 4:00PM.
LSUE came out strong to start, sitting down Pearl River in order before plating the first run of the game. The Bengals would see their first two batters reach safely before
McKenna Howell (Pollock, LA, Grant HS) would drop in a RBI single to score
Payton Prince (Sulphur, LA, Sulphur HS).
PRCC would respond with three runs in the second inning, followed by solo home runs in the third and fourth innings to push the Wildcats' lead to 5-1. LSUE's offense would stall in the middle innings, producing one base hit the next four innings.
The Wildcats would use a four-run sixth inning to take a commanding lead before the Bengals showed life again in the bottom half of the inning. LSUE would load the bases with no outs, only producing one run off a Prince RBI single.
LSUE would leave nine baserunners stranded while being outhit 14-5.
