EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice used a 21-0 run to open the game and never looked back, cruising past Southwest Mississippi CC 81-48 on Monday at the HPRE Center. The Bengals (13-6) swept the season series against the Bears as LSUE closed out the non-conference portion of the regular season schedule.
Izabella Henry (Hornbeck, LA, Anacoco HS) and
Paulina Reichenauer (Waiblingen, Germany, Salier Gymnasium) would combine for the first 11 points of the 21-0 run to start the night. Henry would score eight of her 11 points in that span. The Bengals outscored the Bears 33-4 in the first quarter.
The LSUE offense would slow down its rapid pace in the second quarter but still hold a commanding 48-16 advantage at the halftime break. Reichenauer led the charge in the first half, scoring 13 of her game-high 20 points before intermission.
Saidastiny Stewart (Baton Rouge, LA, Dulles HS (TX)) and
Reesie Jinks (Grant, LA, Fairview HS) were the other two Bengals to score double digit points during the game, tallying 15 and 10 points respectively. LSUE saw 12 different players record at least a point in the victory.
The Bengals' defense put together an impressive night of work, holding Southwest Mississippi to just 19-for-62 (30.6%) from the field, while forcing 26 turnovers.
LSU Eunice now turns its attention to defending its LCCAC Championship with conference play kicking off on Wednesday, January 28. The Bengals head to Delgado for a 5:30PM tip off from New Orleans.
