Mouton Smashes Pair of Homers In Galveston Win

EUNICE, La. – Aidan Mouton (Rayne, LA, Notre Dame HS) jump started the LSU Eunice offense and the Bengals never looked back, scoring a 13-3 run-rule win over Galveston College on Tuesday.  The game was the first meeting between the Bengals (6-1) and Whitecaps in 12 years.
 
Mouton put on a show from his very first at bat, taking a 0-2 pitch deep down the left field line for a solo home run.  He would follow that up with a two-run home run to left center in the third, part of a four-run inning.  The Rayne native added his final RBI of the night in the sixth inning with an infield single to shortstop.  Mouton finished the game 4-for-4, with four RBIs and two runs scored.
 
Not to be outdone, Jake Smith (Rosepine, LA, Rosepine HS) also shined in the runaway win, accounting for six of the team's runs.  Smith plated a two-run single in the fifth to make it 8-1 LSUE and scored later in the inning on a Andrew Clapinski (Baton Rouge, LA, Catholic-Baton Rouge HS) sacrifice fly, one of two times Clapinski drove in Smith.  Smith added a sacrifice fly of his own in the sixth to make it an 11-3 game.
 
The two redshirt sophomores were joined by Clapinski (3 hits) and Jordan Luna (Washington, LA, Opelousas Catholic HS) (2 hits) with multi-hit games, part of the Bengals' 14-hit output.
 
Milan Obradovich (Tuscaloosa, AL, Northridge HS) produced the walk-off winning run with a double down the left field line to bring home Jacob Froehlich (Broussard, LA, St. Thomas More HS) in the seventh inning.
 
Hunter Gambel (Hammond, LA, St. Thomas Aquinas HS) picked up the win after making the midweek start.  The sophomore gave up one earned run off three hits and three walks in three innings of action.  He would strike out two batters. 
 
Mekai Gallien (Rosenberg, TX, Lamar Consolidated HS) struck out four batters in two innings of one-hit relief.  The freshman did not give up a free pass.  McCray Jacobs (Johnson City, TX, Johnson City HS), Easton LeBlanc (Mandeville, LA, St. Paul's Catholic School), Kade LaCoste (Slidell, LA, Pope John Paul II HS) and David Goldapper (Parkland, FL, Marjory Stoneman Douglas HS) also saw time on the mound.
 
LSUE welcomes Monroe University to the Cajun Prairie for a four-game series this weekend.
