BATON ROUGE, La. – After a pair of runaway wins last week, LSU Eunice Women's Basketball showed its resolve by overcoming a late third quarter deficit on the way to a 67-62 win at Baton Rouge CC on Wednesday. The Bengals (18-6, 5-0 LCCAC) now owns a two-game lead in the current LCCAC standings at the halfway point of the conference schedule.
The Bengals found themselves in a back-and-forth game for much of the first half, taking a 34-33 lead into the halftime break.
Paulina Reichenauer (Waiblingen, Germany, Salier Gymnasium) led the LSUE charge before half, scoring 10 of her 16 points before intermission.
BRCC seized momentum in the early stages of the second half before
Edurne Diaz de la Serna Munoz (Ripollet, Spain, Institut Palau Ausit) grabbed for LSUE by herself. Diaz self-engineered a 15-0 run that lasted nearly eight minutes of game time to help the Bengals hold a 53-43 lead early in the fourth quarter. The freshman would hit three consecutive three-point baskets, followed by forcing two steals and connecting on a layup on the other end of the court.
Diaz would end the spurt with a fast break layup. She would score a team-high 24 points.
LSUE would have to make one last stand late after a Baton Rouge push. The Bears would claw back to a three-point deficit, 65-62, with 19.0 seconds remaining. BRCC would miss a shot underneath the hoop and
Saidastiny Stewart (Baton Rouge, LA, Dulles HS (TX)) would ice the game with a pair of free throws with 8.4 seconds in the game.
Kamiera McDonald (Baton Rouge, LA, Scotlandville HS) was the other Bengal to record a double-digit point effort, scoring 11 points off the bench.
LSUE continues a three-game conference road trip on Saturday as the Bengals make the trek up north to face Southern-Shreveport for a 2:00PM tip off.
