EUNICE, La. – A 12-run opening inning put an early exclamation point on LSU Eunice Baseball's 13-0 Sunday win over Wharton County at Bengal Stadium. The Bengals (13-1) swept their third straight series of the season, scoring double digit runs in each of those games.
The Bengals sent up 17 batters in the opening frame, needing only five hits to plate a dozen runs. LSUE took advantage of three errors and seven free passes.
Andrew Clapinski (Baton Rouge, LA, Catholic-Baton Rouge HS),
Milan Obradovich (Tuscaloosa, AL, Northridge HS),
Marshall Louque (Lutcher, LA, Lutcher HS), and
Dylan Bell (Moss Bluff, LA, Sam Houston HS) had RBI singles in the inning.
Tate Dickinson (Belle Chasse, LA, Belle Chasse HS) added the only other run of the game in the third inning, singling home
Jacob Froehlich (Broussard, LA, St. Thomas More HS).
It was another solid outing for
Hunter Gambel (Hammond, LA, St. Thomas Aquinas HS) who made his first weekend start of the season. The sophomore tossed four innings, scattering two hits while not allowing a free pass. He would strike out five batters.
David Goldapper (Parkland, FL, Marjory Stoneman Douglas HS) finished off the Pioneers with an inning of relief work, recording one punch out and one walk.
The Bengals hit the road for the first time this season on Tuesday, heading to Centenary College. LSUE returns home next weekend for a three-game series against Murray State College.
