Bengals Score Pair of Sunday Run-Rules

EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice Softball capped off a red-hot weekend by taking a pair of run-rule wins on Sunday at Lady Bengal Field.  LSUE (14-3) won all four games during its two-day, three team round robin with National Park College and Bossier Parish CC by a combined score of 28-1.

The Bengals jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in their opener against National Park, winning 11-1.  LSUE used a methodical approach in the night cap, scoring in four of the five innings during an 8-0 victory over Bossier Parish.

LSUE is back at home on Monday for an afternoon twinbill against Alvin CC set for a 1:00PM start from Lady Bengal Field.

Game 1 vs. National Park – W, 11-1 (5 Innings)
LSU Eunice used a fast offensive start on its way to an 11-1 run-rule victory over National Park to begin the Sunday action.  The Bengals plated five runs in the opening inning, racing out to an 8-0 advantage in the first two frames.

The Bengals first six batters would reach base safely to begin the bottom of the first.  Makinzey Elisar (Prairieville, LA, St. Amant HS) drove in Mylie Elsensohn (Pearl River, LA, Pearl River HS) to begin the scoring and would be brought home by a Payton Prince (Sulphur, LA, Sulphur HS) two-run home run to left field.  Ella Mabile (Pierre Part, LA, Assumption HS) and Ciara Orgeron (Stonewall, LA, North Desoto HS) produced RBIs later in the inning.

LSUE added three more runs in the second, using another Mabile RBI single, one of two National Park errors, and Maggie Johnson (Welsh, LA, Welsh HS) stealing home.

NPC scored its lone run of the game in the third, only to be answered by three more Bengal runs in the fourth.  LSUE used a passed ball, Amberly Dempster (Des Allemands, LA, Hahnville HS) RBI single and Zoey Smith (Choudrant, LA, Choudrant HS) sacrifice fly.

Mabile, Prince, and Elsensohn each had two hits to lead the LSUE 11-hit attack.

Emily Rachal (Bossier City, LA, Airline HS) and Anna-Cate Miller (West Monroe, LA, Claiborne Christian HS) combined for another solid outing in the circle.  Miller picked up the win after three relief innings, giving up one earned run off three hits and a walk.  Rachal pitched two perfect innings before giving way for Miller.

Game 2 vs. Bossier Parish CC – W, 8-0 (5 Innings)
The Bengals finished their weekend in style, scoring a decisive 8-0 victory over Bossier Parish.  LSUE came through in the clutch with five of its eight runs coming with two outs.

After two quick outs to start the game, LSUE battled right back with three straight base hits to score two runs.  Makinley Harris (Denham Springs, LA, Denham Springs HS) and Ella Mabile produced RBI base hits to set the tone for the Bengals during the evening.  Mya Lanoux (Gonzales, LA, East Ascension HS) extended the lead to 3-0 an inning later, making a heads-up play by stealing home on a pitching miscue of the ball not reaching the plate.

Harris provided what would be the knockout punch in the fourth, smashing a two-out, two-run double to push the LSUE advantage to 5-0.  The Bengals would induce the run rule by taking advantage of five walks in the fifth inning.

Harris was joined by Makinzey Elisar and Kadyn Schenk (Kentwood, LA, Jewel Sumner HS) with multi-hit games.

Erika Savage (Kingwood, TX, Kingwood Park HS) hurled her third complete game and second shutout of the season.  The sophomore did not give up a walk and surrendered just two hits during the game.  She struck out a season-high seven batters while improving to 7-1 on the year.
