EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice Softball took care of business on Saturday, sweeping Northeast Texas CC in a doubleheader at Lady Bengal Field. The Bengals (18-3) swept a doubleheader for the seventh time this season.
The Bengals used a late three-run inning to secure a 5-3 opener against the Eagles and opened up a its finale late to take an 8-2 decision to close out the afternoon against NTCC.
Makinzey Elisar (Prairieville, LA, St. Amant HS) enjoyed a four-hit day while
Payton Prince (Sulphur, LA, Sulphur HS) drove in five runs over the two games.
LSU Eunice closes out a long homestand on Sunday with a NJCAA Top Five matchup against Jones College. The No. 5 Bengals and No. 2 Bobcats meet a 3:00PM for the start of the doubleheader.
Game 1 vs. Northeast Texas CC – W, 5-3
LSU Eunice used timely offense and a few solid outings in the circle to grab a 5-3 win over Northeast Texas to open the Saturday doubleheader.
The Bengals pushed out to a 2-0 lead after two innings thanks to a bunt single RBI by Payton Prince and one of two NTCC errors that helped
Kadyn Schenk (Kentwood, LA, Jewel Sumner HS) score. After NTCC scored in the fourth, the Bengals responded with a three-run spot that came off a
Jordan Stanley (Houston, TX, Clear Lake HS) sacrifice grounder,
Mia Smith (Scott, LA, Teurlings Catholic HS) RBI double, and
Mylie Elsensohn (Pearl River, LA, Pearl River HS) RBI single.
Schenk and Elsensohn led the LSUE offense with multi-hit games.
Ava Kordish (Bayou Chicot, LA, Pine Prairie HS) picked up the win in her first action of the season. The sophomore showed an early return to form, tossing four innings – giving up just one earned run off three hits. She had one free pass while striking out a pair of batters.
Carlei Wheeler (Simsboro, LA, Simsboro HS) and
Emily Rachal (Bossier City, LA, Airline HS) also saw time in the circle, Rachal grabbing her second save of the season with a perfect seventh inning.
Game 2 vs. Northeast Texas CC – W, 8-2
A couple of three-run innings helped LSU Eunice cruise to an 8-2 Saturday finale. The Bengals saw their sophomore duo of Makinzey Elisar and Payton Prince carry the load, combining for five hits and six RBIs.
NTCC struck first with a sacrifice fly in the first inning. The Bengals would seize control for good an inning later after an error and Elisar RBI single gave LSUE the lead for good. Elisar ignited a three-run fourth inning after her RBI single brought home
Kobi Lam (Lafayette, LA, Southside HS). A bases loaded walk made it 4-1 before a RBI double by Prince capped off the big inning.
The Eagles scored their final run of the day in the sixth, only to be outdone in the bottom half by a towering three-run homer by Prince, her sixth of the season.
Ava Defee (Benton, LA, Benton HS) earned her first win of the season, going four innings in the start. Defee gave up one earned run off four hits and a free pass while striking out three batters.
Anna-Cate Miller (West Monroe, LA, Claiborne Christian HS) and
Erika Savage (Kingwood, TX, Kingwood Park HS) finished off the day for the Bengals' pitching staff.
