Early Offense Spurs Home Opening Sweep vs. Bishop State

EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice Softball opened up the home portion of the 2026 season in style with a doubleheader sweep of Bishop State CC on Wednesday at Lady Bengal Field.  LSUE (3-1) kicked off a long homestand, staying the entire month of February on the Cajun Prairie, playing 22 games at home in that span.

The Bengals used early offense in both victories, plating four runs in the first in the opening game en route to a 6-0 decision over the Wildcats.  LSUE scored three in the opening inning of the nightcap, holding on for a 4-3 victory.

Mylie Elsensohn (Pearl River, LA, Pearl River HS) led the Bengals offense on Wednesday, recording four hits and scoring three runs.

LSUE's stint at home continues this weekend with a trio of doubleheaders starting Friday against San Jacinto beginning at 2:00PM.  The Bengals host Kirkwood for a four-game series starting Saturday at 1:00PM.

Game 1 vs. Bishop State CC – W, 6-0
The Bengals jump out to a quick lead and never let go, scoring a second straight shutout with a 6-0 win over Bishop State CC.

LSUE brought home four runs in the opening inning, jump started by capitalizing on one of three Wildcat errors to put lead off batter Mylie Elsensohn on third.  After a double steal that allowed Elsensohn to score, Payton Prince (Sulphur, LA, Sulphur HS) tripled home Makinzey Elisar (Prairieville, LA, St. Amant HS).  Prince would later score on a passed ball before Makinley Harris (Denham Springs, LA, Denham Springs HS) blasted a towering solo home run.

That was more than enough for Anna-Cate Miller (West Monroe, LA, Claiborne Christian HS), who threw for five shutout innings.  The sophomore worked out of a bases loaded jam in the first inning then would retire the Wildcats side in order in three of the next four innings.  Miller scattered two hits and two walks while striking out four batters.

Maleah Galvan (Blessing, TX, Tidehaven HS) tossed two innings of one-hit relief.

LSUE would add runs in the third and fourth innings off a passed ball and Elisar sacrifice groundout.  Elsensohn and Prince collected multi-hit games, part of LSUE's 8-hit output.

Game 2 vs. Bishop State CC – W, 4-3
LSUE used another round of early offense before holding off a late Bishop State surge to take a 4-3 nightcap in the Wednesday doubleheader.

Mylie Elsensohn ignited the Bengals with a lead off triple and score a batter later thanks to a Makinzey Elisar single up the middle.  Zoey Smith (Choudrant, LA, Choudrant HS) brought home two more runs with a double off the wall in left center.

The Bengals added their final run of the game in the fourth inning from a Kobi Lam (Lafayette, LA, Southside HS) RBI double.

LSUE wasn't in the clear just yet as Bishop State would score three runs in the sixth inning, cutting the Bengals' lead to one run.

Emily Rachal (Bossier City, LA, Airline HS) would pick up her first save of the season, putting the Wildcats down in order in the seventh inning.  Erika Savage (Kingwood, TX, Kingwood Park HS) picked up her second win of the early campaign, going 5.2 hitless innings.  The sophomore gave up two walks while striking out a pair.

Offensvely, Elsensohn was the lone Bengal to have multiple hits with LSUE logging six hits in the game.
