Bats Get Hot In Sunday Win vs. Murray State

EUNICE, La.-  LSU Eunice Baseball got back on track Sunday with a 15-4 run-rule victory over Murray State to close out the weekend series at Bengal Stadium.  LSUE (14-3) produced their ninth mercy rule victory of the year.

It was another hot start for the Murray State offense, jumping out with two runs in the first inning.  The Bengals responded with two runs of their own in the second inning, using a two-run single by Aidan Mouton (Rayne, LA, Notre Dame HS).

The back and forth continued with two more Aggie runs before LSUE took the lead for good with a six-run third inning.  Mason Bordelon (Marksville, LA, Avoyelles Charter HS) started the onslaught with a two-run home run, followed by a Jake Smith (Rosepine, LA, Rosepine HS) RBI single and another two-run base hit by Mouton.  Jordan Luna (Washington, LA, Opelousas Catholic HS) closed out the big frame with a RBI single to right field.

Bordelon and Tyler Mitchell (Marrero, LA, John Curtis HS) pushed the LSUE lead to 10-4 an inning later with RBI base hits.  Mitchell added two more RBIs an inning later, joined by a sacrifice fly by Milan Obradovich (Tuscaloosa, AL, Northridge HS).

LSUE put its lead into run-rule range with two more runs in the sixth as Andrew Clapinski (Baton Rouge, LA, Catholic-Baton Rouge HS) and Jacob Froehlich (Broussard, LA, St. Thomas More HS) helped bring in runs.

Mouton was responsible for six of LSUE's runs, producing four RBIs and two runs scored.  Mitchell led the team with a 4-for-4 game adding three RBIs and two runs scored.  Luna, Bordelon and Smith also had multi-hit games for the Bengals in their 14-hit day.

That was more than enough for Lane Fenske (New Iberia, LA, Catholic-New Iberia HS) to improve to 4-0 on the season.  The freshman tossed five innings in the start, giving up four earned runs off nine hits and two walks while striking out eight batters.  David Goldapper (Parkland, FL, Marjory Stoneman Douglas HS) and Kade LaCoste (Slidell, LA, Pope John Paul II HS) saw time in relief as the LSUE pitching totaled 11 strikeouts in the game, their eighth game this season with double digit punchouts.

LSUE welcomes Centenary to town on Tuesday for a 3:00PM scrimmage before hosting Southeast Arkansas next weekend for a four-game series at Bengal Stadium.
