EUNICE, La. - As winds pushed out of the south at Bengal Stadium, the long ball played a big role in a Saturday split for LSU Eunice against Bossier Parish. In the two games totaling 16 innings, the two teams combined for nine homers.
LSUE raced out to an early lead but three solo home runs and late offense helped Bossier Parish rally for a 6-5 win to open the day, followed by a power surge from the Bengals in a 14-8 finale.
LSU Eunice (19-4) head out on the road this weekend for a mid-week game at South Arkansas on Tuesday and then venture to the Lone Star State for a weekend series at Panola.
Game 1 vs. Bossier Parish – L, 5-6
LSU Eunice could not hold on to an early lead, going scoreless in the final five innings of a 6-5 loss to Bossier Parish in a seven-inning contest.
The Bengals jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings with
Jordan Luna (Washington, LA, Opelousas Catholic HS) providing a big lift on offense. Luna launched a two-run homer in the first innings and sacrificed in another run in the second.
Milan Obradovich (Tuscaloosa, AL, Northridge HS) banged a RBI triple off the wall in the first and
Andrew Clapinski (Baton Rouge, LA, Catholic-Baton Rouge HS) provided another sacrifice fly in the second.
Aidan Mouton (Rayne, LA, Notre Dame HS) collected three hits in the game to pace the Bengals.
BPCC chipped away with two solo home runs in the third, part of a three-run frame. Another solo home run in the fifth cut the LSUE lead to 5-4. A one-out double and misplayed ball in the outfield tied the game up, followed by a go ahead sacrifice fly.
The Bengals would go down in order in the bottom half of the seventh inning to end the game.
Game 2 vs. Bossier Parish – W, 14-8
The Bengals responded in the finale with late home runs to capture a 14-8 win over Bossier Parish to close the day.
LSUE found itself tied with Bossier Parish 3-3 in the fourth inning before Jordan Luna lifted a solo home run to give the Bengals the lead for good.
Jake Smith (Rosepine, LA, Rosepine HS) followed an inning later with a three-run long ball to pad the LSUE advantage.
BPCC answered with two runs in the seventh only to be outdone by a three-run homer off the bat of
Milan Obradovich (Tuscaloosa, AL, Northridge HS) in the bottom half of the inning. Obradovich was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score a run before
Caleb Hastings (Lutcher, LA, Lutcher HS) provided the knockout punch on a three RBI double to give LSUE a 14-7 lead.
The Bengals only registered six hits in the game, taking advantage off 11 walks and 2 hit by pitches.
Lane Fenske (New Iberia, LA, Catholic-New Iberia HS) picked up the win to improve to 6-0 on the season. The freshman hurled five innings, giving up three earned runs off five hits and two walks. He would strikeout five batters.
Kade LaCoste (Slidell, LA, Pope John Paul II HS),
Hunter Gambel (Hammond, LA, St. Thomas Aquinas HS) and
Xavier Woods (Cleveland, TX, Cleveland HS) also saw time on the mound in the victory.
