Home Runs Guide LSUE To Panola Opener

CARTHAGE, Tx. LSU Eunice Baseball smashed five home runs on their way to a 22-11 win over Panola College on Friday to start their road weekend series.  The Bengals (21-4) scored in each of the eight innings of action, setting a new season high for hits in a single game with 22.

Caleb Hastings (Lutcher, LA, Lutcher HS) started the long-range assault with a two-run home run in the first inning.  Panola responded with two runs of its own in the bottom of the inning buts it's the closest the Ponies get the rest of the evening.

LSUE added two more homers in the second inning, part of a six-run frame.  Aidan Mouton (Rayne, LA, Notre Dame HS) connected on his team's best 7th homer of the season, a three-run homer to the power alley in left.  Hastings added another two-run homer later in the frame while Marshall Louque (Lutcher, LA, Lutcher HS) capped the scoring in the inning with a RBI single to make it 8-2 LSU Eunice.

The Bengals crossed three more runs in the third, using RBI at bats by Jordan Luna (Washington, LA, Opelousas Catholic HS), Andrew Clapinski (Baton Rouge, LA, Catholic-Baton Rouge HS), and Hastings.  The home run barrage continued an inning later with back-to-back solo home runs by Louque and Dylan Bell (Moss Bluff, LA, Sam Houston HS)

The back-and-forth offensive showcase continued with Panola pushing across five runs in the sixth to trim the LSUE lead to 15-11.  The Bengals responded with seven unanswered runs to close the game, capped by a two-run homer by Louque.

Louque and Hastings – both products of Lutcher HS – did much of the heavy lifting for LSUE, combining for five hits, four home runs, 10 RBIs, and six runs scored.  Mouton and Clapinski each enjoyed four hit games while Milan Obradovich (Tuscaloosa, AL, Northridge HS), Jake Smith (Rosepine, LA, Rosepine HS), and Luna had multi-hit games.

Kade LaCoste (Slidell, LA, Pope John Paul II HS) picked up the win with 2.2 innings of relief work.  LaCoste silenced the Ponies the final stretch of the game, giving up just one hit.  Hudson Spangler (Zachary, LA, Zachary HS) and McCray Jacobs (Johnson City, TX, Johnson City HS) also pitched for the Bengals.

LSUE and Panola close out its weekend series with a 1:00PM doubleheader.
