LSUE Sweeps Road Set At Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE, La. – LSU Eunice Softball swept their season series against Baton Rouge CC with a pair of road wins in a Tuesday doubleheader.  The Bengals (34-13) improved to 63-3 all-time against the Bears.

LSUE started the day with a 7-0 shutout, the team's tenth clean sheet of the season.  The Bengals closed the day with an 8-5 victory.   A collective team effort, LSU Eunice saw 13 different players record at least a hit in the two wins.

The Bengals close out the regular season on Sunday with a road trip to nationally ranked Trinity Valley.  The action from Texas begins at 1:00PM.

Game 1 vs. Baton Rouge CC – W, 7-0
A six-inning frame was all LSU Eunice needed as the Bengals shut out Baton Rouge 7-0 to begin the day's action.  LSUE played one of its cleanest games of the year, not committing an error and only allowing six base runners during the contest.

LSU Eunice saw its first four batters reach safely in the second inning, using an error, Kadyn Schenk (Kentwood, LA, Jewel Sumner HS) RBI double, and Mia Smith (Scott, LA, Teurlings Catholic HS) RBI single to push out to a 3-0 lead.  Jadyn Yesso (Houma, LA, Houma Christian HS) and Payton Prince (Sulphur, LA, Sulphur HS) sacrificed home the other three runs of the inning to put the Bengals comfortably ahead.

That was plenty for the trio of Ava Kordish (Bayou Chicot, LA, Pine Prairie HS), Emily Rachal (Bossier City, LA, Airline HS), and Maleah Galvan (Blessing, TX, Tidehaven HS) to produce the shutout.  Kordish got the start, going two innings while giving up just two hits and striking out three batters.  Rachal grabbed the win after four relief innings.  The freshman also allowed just two hits while working around two walks with two strikeouts.

Galvan pitched the final inning, inducing a flyout and two groundouts.

Mya Lanoux (Gonzales, LA, East Ascension HS) scored the final run of the game for the Bengals in the fourth inning off a passed ball.  Schenk was the lone Bengal to have a multi-hit game, recording an RBI and run scored.

Game 2 vs. Baton Rouge CC – W, 8-5
An early lead helped LSU Eunice stave off a late Baton Rouge rally, taking an 8-5 decision to close out the day.

After not scoring in the first inning, LSU Eunice would plate runs in the next four frames.  Jadyn Yesso kicked off the spurt in emphatic fashion, smashing a solo home run to center field.  Payton Prince brought home a pair of runs an inning later with a double up the middle.

After BRCC scored in the third, LSUE added two more runs on back-to-back RBI singles by Mylie Elsensohn (Pearl River, LA, Pearl River HS) and Makinzey Elisar (Prairieville, LA, St. Amant HS).  The Bengals added a three-spot in the fifth with run scoring at bats by Jade Fischtzuir (Covington, LA, Covington HS), Mia Smith, andKarsyn Vadnais (Plaquemine, LA, St. John's HS).

Elsensohn, Prince, and Vadnais were joined by Makinley Harris (Denham Springs, LA, Denham Springs HS) with multi-hit games as LSUE racked up 14 hits as a team.

BRCC would score four runs in the final three frames to inch closer to LSUE but the early momentum was enough for the Bengals to hold.  Erika Savage (Kingwood, TX, Kingwood Park HS) improved to 12-2 on the season after four innings of work.  The sophomore gave up one earned run off two hits and four walks while striking out four batters.  Anna-Cate Miller (West Monroe, LA, Claiborne Christian HS) and Maleah Galvan also saw time in the circle.
