Bordelon Ignites LSUE Romp Over Delgado

EUNICE, La. –  A pair of big home runs off the bat of Mason Bordelon (Marksville, LA, Avoyelles Charter HS) helped trigger an LSU Eunice Baseball offensive explosion, helping the Bengals take down Delgado 12-2 in a five-inning run rule win on Friday at Bengal Stadium.

LSU Eunice found itself in an early one run hole after the Dolphins connected for three hits and one run in the opening inning.  The Bengals punched back in the second inning using a Marshall Louque (Lutcher, LA, Lutcher HS) leadoff double and RBI triple from Tyler Mitchell (Marrero, LA, John Curtis HS) to tie the game.  A batter later, Mason Bordelon would send the LSUE dugout into a frenzy and the Bengal fans to their feet.

Bordelon launched a mammoth home run over the 30-foot batter's eye in center field to give LSUE a lead it would never let go of.  The redshirt sophomore followed that up an inning later with an exclamation point that put LSUE in striking distance of a mercy rule win with a two-out, three-run home run to left field to push the Bengals' lead to 7-1.

LSUE added four more runs an inning later thanks to RBIs from Aidan Mouton (Rayne, LA, Notre Dame HS), Louque, and Jake Smith (Rosepine, LA, Rosepine HS).  Delgado would momentarily put itself out of danger of a shortened game with a solo home run in the fifth, only to be answered by a walk-off response from Andrew Clapinski (Baton Rouge, LA, Catholic-Baton Rouge HS) with a solo long ball of his own.

Clapinski was one of four different Bengals to have multi-hit games in the win.  Louque led the bunch with a 3-for-3 game with two RBIs and three runs scored.  The freshman duo was joined by Bordelon and his five RBI game in addition to Jake Smith.  LSUE piled up 11 hits in the five-inning game, seven which were for extra bases.

The offensive showcase muzzled an otherwise stellar night for Lane Fenske (New Iberia, LA, Catholic-New Iberia HS).  The freshman shook off the rough first inning to limit Delgado to just four more hits the next four innings of play.  Fenske improved to 12-0 on the season after striking out nine batters.

LSU Eunice continues its weekend series against Delgado with a 2:00PM doubleheader on Saturday.  Prior to the first game at Bengal Stadium, LSU Eunice will honor the 2006 Baseball team with the 20th anniversary of their NJCAA National Championship.
