EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice Baseball used a seven-run inning and another strong offensive performance to capture a 13-3 win over Delgado in a five-inning run rule on Sunday. The game was the Bengals' (39-9, 16-4 LCCAC) final home game of the regular season.
It did not seem like LSUE would run away with the game early on. Delgado drew first blood with back-to-back solo home runs in the second, only to be matched by a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame by the Bengals.
Marshall Louque (Lutcher, LA, Lutcher HS) doubled home
Milan Obradovich (Tuscaloosa, AL, Northridge HS) and later scored on a
Mason Bordelon (Marksville, LA, Avoyelles Charter HS) RBI single. The early sparring continued with the Dolphins regaining the lead in the third with a RBI double.
That's when the Bengals ran past Delgado thanks to a seven run inning. LSUE quickly loaded the bases in the third inning, scoring the first run of the inning thanks to a walk. Two batters later,
Tyler Mitchell (Marrero, LA, John Curtis HS) laced a bases clearing three-run double to give the Bengals their first lead of the game. Bordelon followed that up with a two-run home run to straight away center field.
Caleb Hastings (Lutcher, LA, Lutcher HS) made it back-to-back bombs, launching a solo shot to right field and giving the Bengals a 9-3 advantage.
The bullpen would silence the Delgado offense for the remainder of the game.
Mekai Gallien (Rosenberg, TX, Lamar Consolidated HS) picked up the win after 1.2 innings of work, giving up one hit and a walk with two strikeouts.
McCray Jacobs (Johnson City, TX, Johnson City HS) induced the final two outs of the game. The duo retired the final seven batters of the game in order.
LSUE would put the run rule into play with four more runs in the fourth, all coming with two outs. After an
Aidan Mouton (Rayne, LA, Notre Dame HS) single and two-out walk by Louque, Mitchell added another RBI to his total with a double. Bordelon followed suit from the inning prior, blasting a three-run home run and give the Bengals a double-digit lead.
Bordelon led the team with a 3-for-3 day including six RBIs and two runs scored. For the weekend, the redshirt sophomore capped a monster weekend going 7-for-11 with five home runs, 14 RBIs, and six runs scored. His 15 home runs are tied for the second most in a single season in school history with Kellen Bozeman (2008).
Mitchell and Hastings were the two other Bengals to enjoy a two-hit afternoon. Mitchell tied a career high with four RBIs in the game, coming home on each of Bordelon's home runs. Seven of the team's ten hits were for extra bases.
LSU Eunice closes out the regular season with a four-game series at Nunez that starts Thursday, April 30.
