All Tournament OF Bobbi Smith

May 18, Mott Community College – W, 16-0
 
The Bengals kicked off the World Series in style with a 16-0 run-rule victory over Mott Community College.  The onslaught started early with a 2-RBI triple by Bobbi Smith in the first inning.  Jessica Thomas put the Bengals up a touchdown in the third with a bases loaded 3-RBI double, part of a five-run third inning.
 
The fourth inning proved to be the final nail in the coffin.  LSUE scratched across nine runs in the inning that included a Jessica Thomas grand slam and Rebecca Skains three-run home run.
 
Abigail Leonards (W, 20-3) and Jordan Dougherty combined for a 3-hit shutout, striking out five batters and walking two.
 
May 19, Des Moines Area Community College – W, 10-1
 
LSU Eunice cruised in the second round with a 10-1 run rule win over Des Moines Area CC.  Jordan Hartman provided the big lick in the sixth inning with a three run home run, one of three long balls for the Bengals on the day.
 
Bobbi Smith and Molly Wilson each added home runs in the rout.
 
May 20, LaBette Community College – W, 3-2
 
Alli Daigle provided the heroics in the bottom of the ninth with a RBI single to centerfield as LSU Eunice escape LaBette with a 3-2 extra inning thriller.  Daigle’s game winner was set up by a Rebecca Skains base hit as she scored the walk-off run.
 
The Bengals found themselves in an early hole when Jordan Bertot responded with a home run to tie the game at 1-1 in the third inning.  LSUE then avoided disaster with Jeannemarie Angelle’s sacrifice fly RBI to tie the game again, 2-2-, in the bottom of the seventh to send the game to extra innings.

May 20, Jones County Junior College – W, 4-2
 
Another game and another walk-off for the Bengals against their Region 23 rival, Jones County JC.    After Andy Lee was ejected for arguing a controversial call, Jordan Hartman broke a tie with a two-run walk-off home run in the seven to take down the Wildcats, 4-2.
 
In fact, it was the long ball that helped LSUE dig itself out of a 2-0 hole.  The tag team of Rebecca Skains and Bobbi Smith jacked a pair of solo homers to tie the game up in the sixth inning.
 
Abigail Leonards gutted out a complete game effort to improve to 23-3 on the season.  The freshman gave up six hits and two earned runs while striking out a pair of batters and walking one.

May 21, Jones County Junior College – L, 9-0
 
Region rivals Jones County handed LSU Eunice its first loss of the tournament to force a winner-take-all in the championship.  The Bengals were limited to jump four hits in a 9-0 shutout setback. 
 
It was just the second time in 2016 that LSU Eunice had been held scoreless.
Jones County scored all of its runs in the first four innings highlighted by a three-run home run in the fourth.

May 21, Jones County Junior College – W, 12-4


The Bengals wouldn’t be denied the program’s 4th national championship by responding against Jones County in a 12-4 runaway win.  LSUE fell behind 1-0 early, but responded with six unanswered runs in the second and third innings.  Rebecca Skains’ solo home run and Molly Wilson’s three-run blast in the third helped propel the Bengals ahead and never looking back.
 
Jones County hit a deep shot of its own to cut the Bengals’ lead to 6-4 in the third.  The power hitting Bengals would strike again with Skains (three-run) and Jeannemarie Angelle (two-run) sealing the championship thanks to another pair of home runs in the sixth inning, part of a five-run frame.
 
Abigail Leonards improved her record to 24-4 on the season after tossing the first 4.1 innings.  Leonards scattered four runs off of four hits while not allowing a walk. Jordan Dougherty finished the job with 2.2 innings of relief of scoreless ball while striking out three batters.
