Alan Orgain enters his 19th season as the assistant baseball coach (pitching coach/recruiting coordinator) at LSU Eunice. Since his arrival in 2007 at LSU Eunice, Orgain has helped guide the Bengals to seven National Championships, a Runner-up finish and a third-place finish.
Considered one of the top assistants in junior college baseball, Orgain was recognized as the 2018 and 2021 NJCAA Division II Assistant Coach of the Year by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and Baseball America Magazine.
Orgain has recruited and/or coached 19 pitchers who have been drafted or signed as MLB free-agents, 65 pitchers who have moved on to NCAA Division I schools, and 22 other pitchers who have moved on to other levels of collegiate baseball.
One of the top Bengal products under Orgain is Ben Braymer, an LSUE pitcher from 2014-2015. Braymer was named the 2018 Minor League Pitcher of the Year for the Washington Nationals organization and recently pitched for the Nationals during the 2020 season.
The Bengals have produced 11 NJCAA All-American pitchers in that stretch including two-time recipient Chance Mistric. Orgain was also instrumental in the development of the 2018 NJCAA Pitcher of the Year, Zach Hester. Hester moved on to Samford University where he was named the 2019 Southern Conference Pitcher of the Year.
Most recently, Orgain mentored 2024 NJCAA Pitcher of the Year Blake Lobell. The World Series All-Tournament Team and first-team LSWA All-Louisiana member, Lobell led all of the NJCAA in 2024 with 129 strikeouts - the third most in a single season in LSUE history.
In the last five years alone, Coach Orgain has produced 29 Division I pitchers that competed in the Southeastern Conference (SEC), American Athletic Conference, Big East Conference, Conference USA, Sun Belt Conference, Southland Conference, Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), Big South Conference, Atlantic Sun Conference, and the Horizon League.
Under his tutelage, three Bengal pitchers have ranked tops in program history in different statistical categories. Ben Braymer’s 138 strikeouts (2015), Chance Mistric’s (2009) and Owen Schexnaydre's (2024) 15 wins, and Brady Domangue’s 1.34 ERA (2013) still lead the LSUE record books.
In two of the last three Bengal championship runs in 2018 and 2024, Orgain's pitching staff shattering the team record books. In 2024, LSUE broke the 2018's records and set new standards for team ERA (2.43), strikeouts (635) and opponents' batting average (.199).

Prior to coming to LSU Eunice, Orgain served during two successful seasons as an assistant at San Jacinto College (Houston, Texas). In his time at San Jacinto College the Gators achieved an 82-39 overall record and back-to-back third-place finishes at the NJCAA World Series.
In 2005, Orgain was a head coach in the New York Collegiate League, coaching in the Athletes in Action summer baseball program. Orgain’s first coaching assignment came in 2003, as a head coach in the Burkburnett (TX) Blacksox organization.
Orgain, originally from Hammon, Okla., began his collegiate playing career as a left-handed pitcher at Seward County Community College (Liberal, Kan.) where he earned an Associate’s degree. At SCCC, Orgain was named Jayhawk West All-Conference as a freshman and earned the Wade Johnstone Award (Athletic and Academic Excellence) as a sophomore. Orgain spent one year at the University of Kansas (Lawrence, Kan.) before transferring to the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (Chickasha, Okla.) where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management and Administration. Orgain then attended graduate school at Texas Tech University (Lubbock, Texas), earning a Master’s degree in Sport Management.
The Oklahoma native and his wife, Jeslyn, daughter, Ruby and sons, Avery and Maddox, reside in Eunice.
