Jacob McDonald enters his fifth year on the Cajun Prairie, serving as the lead assistant for both the men’s and women’s basketball programs. The 2022-23 season marks McDonald’s first year coaching for both LSU Eunice basketball programs.
McDonald has been a key component to LSUE’s dominant run in men’s basketball, helping the Bengals capture the Louisiana Community College Athletic Conference (LCCAC) regular season championship in each of his first three years serving as the top assistant on the LSUE men’s staff.
He joined Byron Starks and the LSUE Men’s Basketball program in its first year of existence during the 2018-19 season.
Prior to joining the LSUE coaching staff, McDonald served as an assistant at his high school alma mater, St. Thomas More for five years. Under the tutelage of legendary head coach Danny Broussard, McDonald helped the Cougars to the 2018 Division II State Championship.
McDonald was a decorated prep standout for St. Thomas More HS. A two-time All-District performer for the Cougars, McDonald enjoyed a breakout senior campaign earning LHSBCA All-State and All-Acadiana honors while leading STM to the Top 28 in the Class 4A Semifinals.
The Maurice native would go on to play collegiately at Lee College and UT-Tyler.
