Ian McGimsey begins his fourth year as the Women's Soccer Head Coach at LSUE after being named the first coach in program history in March 2018.
The Rochester, NY has quickly turned LSUE into of the top junior college programs in the Gulf South, reaching the Region 23 Championship Game in each of his first two seasons and ending the 2019 and 2020-21 campaigns in the NJCAA Division I rankings.
LSUE earned its first Top 10 ranking in program history in 2019, ascending to 9th in the nation. During the 2020-21 season, LSU Eunice produced its first All-American under McGimsey as defender Sanaa Williams was named an honorable mention selection.
Defense has been McGimsey's calling card on the Cajun Prairie, ranking in the Top 20 nationally in shutouts the last two seasons.
In 2020-21, LSUE finished with a 5-5-2 record after enduring one of the toughest schedules in the nation accord to the Massey Ratings index. The Bengals were District Semifinalist after getting at least a result in two of their final three games of the year, all against ranked opposition. McGimsey secured six student-athletes to four-year insitutions including three to NCAA Division I - Tilly Deacon (SE Louisiana), Alessia Iannizzi (St. Francis College) and Breon Grant (Kennesaw State).
In 2019, LSUE shutout nine opponents, won its first game over a NJCAA ranked opponent and hosted the Region 23 title game en route to a 13-3-1 record. Samaris Alvarado was the first Bengal to receive All-Region honors after tying for the team lead in goals (nine) and second in points (22). The campaign also saw LSUE send off its first Division I signees with Mariah Scott (UTEP) and Sherice Clarke (Alabama A&M) moving on to the next level.
The Bengals ranked 12th in 2019 in goals against average, allowing less than a goal per contest (0.70).
In LSUE’s first season, McGimsey helped guide the Bengals to a 7-2-1 inaugural campaign and Region 23 Championship Game appearance.
McGimsey came to LSUE from Northeast Texas Community College, spending three years as the head coach of the women’s program, amassing a 32-18-1 record.
McGimsey spent five seasons at NTCC, including three as head coach from 2015-2017. He helped develop their men’s side to produce the school’s first NJCAA Final 8 National Tournament appearance and the women’s team’s first conference tournament in 2014.
His Eagles were 9-7 in 2017 before falling to eventual National Champion Tyler Junior College in the Region XIV Playoffs. His 2016 squad enjoyed a 14-4 nationally ranked season, finishing second in their conference.
As a head coach at NTCC, McGimsey helped ten players move on to four-year institutions. In his first season as head coach at NTCC, the Eagles notched nine wins – a new school record that was broken the following season.
In addition to his duties as women’s head coach, McGimsey serves as the assistant to the men’s team.
McGimsey started his playing career at Monroe CC (NJCAA – Division I) before continuing at University of Buffalo. While in college, he interned and trained with the Rochester Lancers (MISL) and Rochester Rhinos (USL) to learn day-to-day operations of soccer organizations.
McGimsey started his coaching career started at Monroe CC where he served as an assistant men’s coach in 2010. He has a bachelor’s degree in Sports Management with a minor in coaching from SUNY-Brockport.
