The LSU Eunice Athletic Department announced on April 14 that former Lady Bengal basketball player Amanda Clemons has been named the Interim Head Coach of the LSU Eunice women's basketball team.

Clemons will step into a Lady Bengal program coming off a 26-4 season that included their first ever Miss-Lou Conference Championship and a trip to the Region 23 Tournament.

"We are excited to welcome Coach Clemons back onto campus as our head coach," LSU Eunice Athletic Director Jeff Willis said.

"As a former Bengal player, she understands our University and the expectations of our student-athletes. Coach Clemons was someone we identified as a strong candidate during our coaching search last summer, and we are excited to be able to bring her on board at this time."

Clemons, who was a guard at LSU Eunice from 2001-2004 under the program's first head coach Kathy Barlow, went on to play at Louisiana College before a high school coaching career that has included being named the Louisiana Class 3A Coach of the Year in 2011.

After a playing career at LSU Eunice and Louisiana College, Clemons earned her master's degree while serving as an Assistant Coach at Mississippi College, where she gained experience in recruiting student-athletes and monitoring academic performance in addition to on-court coaching.

A high school head coach during the past four years, she was named the District Coach of the Year and Parish Coach of the Year in addition to her State Coach of the Year honor in 2011 after leading her team to a state finalists finish in her first season as a head coach.
