Jamien Arvie is entering her first season at Louisiana State University Eunice as an Assistant Basketball Coach for the Lady Bengals. She is very excited to once again be part of the program, and working with her former coaching staff, Head Coach Michael Bari and Assistant Eric Hood.
Jamien hails from Chataignier, Louisiana, only nine miles away from Eunice. Jamien’s parents, Jimmy and Angelia Arvie, still live in her hometown. Two of her three younger brothers are in middle school and high school, and the oldest currently attends Grambling State University. Jamien graduated from Ville Platte High School, and was teammates with former Lady Bengal Renotta Edwards. Throughout her time as a Bulldog, Jamien earned many awards for both basketball and softball, as well as many academic awards as well. It was this level of acheivement that garnered the attention of Coach Michael Bari.
Jamien signed on to play with the Lady Bengals in 2005, along with a talented freshman class that was hailed as one of the most talented groups in school history. In her sophomore season, Jamien ascended as the de facto captain of the team, and kept a watchful eye over the freshmen. This leadership ability translated on the floor as well, as she played a big part in the team’s record 27 win season and National Tournament appearance. Jamien was among the top 5 in Field Goal percentage during the tournament and assited in the team’s highest national finish in their short history.
Her hard work off the floor paid off, and she graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Business Management, and signed to play with the Lady Pilots of LSU Shreveport. Her time at LSU Shreveport proved to be just as fruitful, as she helped take her club to their first National Tournament in the NAIA. She graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in English, and is planning to continue her education in the future.
Jamien is extremely excited to be back home to begin her coaching career in a friendly and familiar environment and hopes that all she has learned will help bring the Lady Bengals continued success now, and into the future.
