Kayla Schumaker enters her first season on the LSUE Women's Basketball staff, joining in August 2024.  Schumaker comes to the Cajun Prairie from Independence Community College, where she served as the top assistant on the Pirates' staff under Coach Beckmann.

At LSU Eunice, Schumaker will serve as the Bengals' Associate Head Coach and Chief of Staff.

"Coach Schumaker has a big heart for our student-athletes and goes above and beyond to ensure their success on and off the court," LSU Eunice Women's Basketball head coach Rob Beckmann said.  "I am excited and very fortunate to continue to have Kayla as a colleague as she is incredibly talented at coaching basketball, running the operations side of a basketball program, and being a tremendous mentor and role model to our young women."

As part of Beckmann's staff at ICC, Coach Schumaker helped guide the Pirates to four wins over nationally ranked opponents.  Schumaker joined the Independence CC staff in 2022 under previous head coach Jim Turgeon, spending two years total with the Pirates.

Prior to her collegiate coaching at Independence Community College, Schumaker was an assistant at Cardinal Mooney High School in Sarasota, Florida.  She helped lead the Cougars to back-to-back Class 3A State Championship game appearances in 2021 and 2022.

In addition to her prep coaching duties, Schumaker was involved in travel basketball in the Sarasota/Bradenton area for several years.

She was a member of the Central Methodist University (NAIA) Women's Basketball team for two years before beginning her coaching career.
