The LSU Eunice softball team picked up its second win of the afternoon behind a trio of freshmen as they defeated San Jacnito 6-0 Saturday afternoon in Eunice.

Brooklyn Guillot went the distance in the circle to grab her first collegiate win, tossing seven innings of shutout ball while allowing just four hits and two walks on the afternoon for the Lady Bengals (2-0).

Scoreless through the first three innings, the Lady Bengals broke the game open in the fourth, scoring all six runs in the frame as they sent 10 batters to the plate.

Freshman Emily Nolan (2-3) led off the fourth with a line-drive opposite field home run to break the scoreless tie before Kelsey Hollier (1-3) and Caitlen Blanchard (1-2) doubled and singled, respectively to bring freshman Brooke Rozas to the plate.

Rozas sent the first pitch of her at-bat soaring into right field, with the ball bouncing off the top of the wall and out for a three-run home run on her only hit of the afternoon.

Brooke Clark’s (3-4) RBI single continued the scoring as she drove home Brooke Thomas (1-3) before Taylor Simon (1-4) doubled to drive home Clark.

“Emily Nolan hit a shot that was crushed, she got all of that one,” head coach Andy Lee said.

“Then the surprise was Brooke Rozas, a girl that wasn’t really penciled in as a starter, got her opportunity made the most of it,” he added.

The Lady Bengals now turn back around and host Heartland College in a doubleheader on Sunday. LSU Eunice opened Saturday morning with a 2-0 win over Heartland before their afternoon game.

“We want to play. We have been practicing all year long and we are just ready to play some games, and looking forward to being back out here tomorrow,” Lee said.

The Lady Bengals' doubleheader tomorrow begins at noon and can be seen on Bengal All-Access.
