EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice enjoyed a hot start to its season but a cold snap to begin its contest Tuesday night against San Jacinto was too much for the Bengals to handle. The Gators held LSUE to just 19 first half points, delivering the Bengals their first setback of the year, 90-57.
San Jacinto's Eryka Sidney provided the early spark for the Gators. The sophomore guard scored 11 of her game high 26 points in the first quarter. LSUE as a team was limited to 11 points in the first stanza.
The Bengals struggled to find an offensive rhythm in the first half, shooting 21-for-66 (31.8%) for the game. After being outscored 28-8 in the second quarter, LSUE found itself in a 52-19 hole at intermission.
LSUE showed signs of life in out of the locker rooms. The Bengals outscored the Gators 19-16 in the third quarter but the early hole was too much to overcome.
Arianna Dargin (Iowa HS) led the way for LSUE with 16 points. It was the freshman's third consecutive double-digit effort.
Rylie James (Basile HS), JaNaijia Marks (DeRidder HS) and
De'Asia Dixon (Huntington HS) all chipped in eight points for the Bengals.
The season opening four-game home stand comes to an end on Thursday. LSU Eunice welcomes Arkansas State-Mid-South to town for a 6:00PM tip-off from the HPRE Center.
