Fast Start Propels Bengals To Win vs. ASU-Mid-South

Box Score

EUNICE, La.  – One of the main aspects of a team coaches want to see is how their players respond to adversity.  LSUE head coach Amanda Clemons can check that off the list.

After dropping their first game of the year, the Bengals answered back with a 96-86 victory over Arkansas State-Mid-South.  The win improves LSU Eunice to 3-1 on the young season.

The Bengals fell victim to a slow first half start last time out against San Jacinto.  Tonight, against the Greyhounds it was a different story.  LSUE capitalized on 21 ASU-Mid-South turnovers including a few key giveaways in a critical 14-2 run late in the first quarter that gave the Bengals early breathing room.  That stretch took a two point LSUE lead and bumped it to double digits – where it stayed the majority of the game.

Rylie James (Basile HS) bounced back after an off-night Tuesday.  The sophomore poured in 17 first half points, 11 coming the first quarter alone, to help the Bengals go into the locker rooms up 48-27.  James finished the evening with 24 points, a new season-high.

While James started the game on fire, Arianna Dargin (Iowa HS) closed it out.  The Greyhounds cut their deficit to single digits in the final frame but not before Dargin helped LSUE secure the win.  The freshman poured in 11 of her 16 points in the fourth quarter to help extinguish any hope of a 'Hound comeback.

Fellow freshman Sissy Saucier (South Beauregard HS) and De'Asia Dixon (Huntington HS) both scored double digits for the Bengals, tallying 16 and 10 respectively.

The Bengals will now venture off on the road for the first time this season.  LSUE will try to get a little revenge on San Jacinto College.  The Gators handed the Bengals their first loss of the year this past Tuesday.
